Course Syllabus
Abstract
To perform in a global environment, do managers need to develop a global mindset? Is there a universal concept of leadership or it will always have a flavor of a local culture? This course will address the concept of leadership in different cultural environment. Cross-cultural awareness, a building stone of a global mindset, begins with learning about own and other cultures. Better cultural awareness can serve as a basis for competitive advantage for global companies. The views and understanding of what are good managers and leaders differ from one culture to another. In the beginning of the course we will focus on the concept of leadership and how it evolved in Western societies. We will then proceed to the cultural dimension of the leadership. How culture interacts with business practices? How values, attitudes and behaviors, reflected in culture, help to deal with business issues. Case studies, academic and fiction readings and movies will help us to build the links between theoretical concepts and business practices.
