Course Syllabus

Abstract

This is an elective course in the minor programme in International Business, designed as introduction for the 2rd year students to the theory and practice of the international consulting. The course is designed to provide students with a set of theoretical and applied knowledge about the basics of consulting and the world practice of consulting services. International consulting is of great importance for a highly competitive market in the conditions of problems and challenges that can be caused by both external and internal circumstances on local and global markets. Career perspectives in international consulting will be interesting for smart and hardworking students from different academic programmes.

Learning Objectives

  • To equip students with the tools, skills, frameworks, and mindsets to quickly add value by tackling business challenges in a structured, methodical, and logical manner. While these skills derive from the “consulting skillset,” they will ultimately allow students to lead both in consulting and non-consulting contexts after graduation.
  • To illustrate the core differences between the “operator” and “advisor” role, as well as the benefits and limits to each.
  • To assess and address the tasks, relati nships, and dilemmas consultants may face.
  • To apply and practice many of the core skills that will make students more successful as counselors and advisors.

  • One of two topics focused on dilemmas common or specific to the consulting industry, this topic delves deeper into the client side of an advisor’s role.

  • Career Choices and Tradeoffs.

    Contact a Russian business consulting company, discuss the class with them and arrange for a 30-40 minute ZOOM presentation/discussion by the company representative describing what the company does, and a typical day or week for a consultant, followed by a question/answer session from the class members.

    End of Module Test—The test will be open notes and administered online.
