Course Syllabus

Abstract

The course examines the concepts and applied techniques for effective management of projects based on the flexible methods. Project management principles and methodology are introduced. Key topics of focus include developing a project plan and scheduling resources, work breakdown structures, and project networks. The aim of this course is to familiarize students with the issues related to flexible methods of project management and provides them with an understanding of the nature of projects to be a temporary endeavor, initiated to meet a set of goals and to bring about beneficial change and added value. Students will be able to analyze project management environment, processes and work break-down structure, to define project boundaries, goals and objects of consideration. The course provides students with an ability to implement project evaluation and to apply their theoretical knowledge to a practical setting in writing case studies. Students will form project research groups focusing on a certain business-oriented project; each group will be responsible for the choice of a business or managerial issue for the project. During this course we will study different aspects of the project management: financial, organizational, economical. We also will teach special software for project management. The course requires the knowledge in micro and macroeconomics, accounting, theory of finance, financial management. The course is based on lectures, seminars and self-study.
