Course Syllabus
Abstract
The course offers an advanced analysis and discussion of macro-factors shaping the development of digital economy and digital business practices in the Asia-Pacific region. Specifically, the course includes five analytical blocks. Block I traces major mega-trends that define the evolution of global digital economy and global digital business, as well as points out salient features of the Asia-Pacific region from a digital economy and a digital business perspective. Block II reveals the specificity of digital infrastructure in the Asia-Pacific region: the 5G internet, digital support for global and regional value chains (GVC and RVC), data centers, smart factories, additive manufacturing and the industrial internet of things (IIoT). Block III discusses institutional and regulatory aspects of Asia-Pacific digital economy and digital commercial practices represented by ASEAN, RCEP, IPEF and the Digital Silk Road, as well as data localization regulations and central bank digital currencies (CBDC) in various Asia-Pacific states. Block IV explores in detail the corporate aspects of Asia-Pacific digitalization (exemplified by chaebols, keiretsu, Taiwanese corporations, Chinese government-linked companies and Southeast Asian business groups), as well as scrutinizes the digital transformation of Asia-Pacific micro-, small and medium-sized enterprises. Block V gives insights into digital commercial practices in selected economic sectors, specifically, energy, agriculture, transport and logistics, fintech, medicine and education. The course applies advanced and immersive learning and teaching techniques, which makes in comprehensive, insightful and eventually rewarding.

- Learning Objectives • To outline salient features of the global trends that shape digital economy and digital business; to specify the extent to which the Asia-Pacific region follows these developments; • To comprehensively discuss the infrastructure-related issues of digital transformation of the Asia-Pacific economy and business; • To assess digitalization-related regulatory pillars shaping the regional economic and business practices; • To review issues relevant to the digital transformation of advertising and brand-building, including salient features of neuromarketing in Asia-Pacific companies and their digitally-enabled market entry strategies; • To review how the Asia-Pacific corporate sector responds to the on-going digitalization, as well as to examine practices followed by the Asia-Pacific digital champions; • To comprehensively explore notable digital education-related and digital skill training-related trends across the Asia-Pacific region; • To provide students with interactive training and other forms of immersive activity relevant to the issues discussed.
Expected Learning Outcomes

- Block 6. Business education and skill traning in the Asia-Pacific region: a digital perspective
Assessment Elements
- A collective research papera collective research paper is not part of assessment components. This paper is an entry point to the final grade (without participating in this form of activity, a student is not allowed to receive the final grade).
- A mini-projectThe students are to participate in mini-projects. The requirements will be explained in detail by the professors. Mini-projects (a collective assignment) account for soft skills training.
- An individual essaysThe students are to prepare individual essays on the topics offered by the professors. The requirements will be explained in detail by the professors. Essays are an individual assignment.
- The final examThe students are to pass the final exam. Issues covered during the course will be discussed. In selected cases, an exemption is possible.
