Course Syllabus

Abstract

This course on sustainable development and ESG practices provides a conceptual and theoretical framework that is applied to a number of recent business cases based on real data. The lectures provide the theoretical grounding and the smaller seminar groups are used for case studies.
Learning Objectives

Learning Objectives

  • To develop a conceptual and theoretical framework for sustainable development and corporate ESG practices in the age of AI. The framework includes shareholder theory, stakeholder theory, CSR, the Triple Bottom Line, Value-Based Management, Value Rationality, AI and the Value Alignment Problem, Relative and Absolute Value, Corporate Core Values, Organisational Integrity, Perceived Leader Integrity, and Ethical Leadership. AI and ethical decision-making.
  • To apply and test the conceptual and theoretical frameworks that support sustainable development and ESG practices in simulated cases based on real events and actual data from the local and international business environment including and use of Large Language Models and AI.
  • To discuss and debate and critically analyse the strengths and weaknesses of different approaches to sustainable development and ESG practices with a particular focus on the use of AI to support creative thinking and decision-making.
  • To integrate ethical principles into corporate strategy that supports sustainable development and ESG practices through effective collaboration with AI.

  • 1) Critical Thinking: Critically analyze and assess the impact of various business practices on sustainability and ESG criteria.
  • 2) Holistic Mindset: Formulate and propose comprehensive sustainability and ESG strategies tailored to specific industries or companies using informed decision-making.
  • 3) Managerial Dashboarding: Apply tools and techniques from business informatics to collect and interpret data related to sustainability and ESG performance.
  • 4) Ethical Consideration: Recognize and evaluate the ethical implications of business decisions related to sustainability and responsibility.
  • 5) Collaborative Problem-Solving: Work effectively in teams to propose innovative solutions to real-world sustainability challenges, emphasizing stakeholder engagement and community impact.
