The Industrial Internship of the students of the DP BA&BDS is carried out in order to collect, analyze and generalize scientific material, develop original scientific proposals and scientific ideas for conducting research in the framework of preparing a master’s thesis, obtaining skills for independent research work, practical participation in research work.

The Industrial Internship is conducted for the 2nd year students of the DP BA&BDS, in accordance with the approved DP curriculum of the Graduate School of Business. The Industrial Practice is carried out mainly under contracts with legal entities. The place of the Industrial Practice can be chosen by the student independently or offered by the Graduate School of Business.

According to the decision of the Academic Council of the Graduate School of Business dated 19.05.2022, the following criteria for the independent choice of the place of the Industrial Practice were determined:

• it is not allowed to practice in an individual entrepreneur, in your own company or in the company of a close relative (heirs of the first and second stage);
• the number of employees of the organization is at least 50 people, the minimum value of income for the previous calendar year is from 100 million rubles, or, if this criterion is not met, the organization is part of an International/Russian network/group of companies;
• the duration of the business is at least 3 years.

If the organization does not meet the specified criteria, the student must receive written approval from the academic supervisor of the DP with justification for the possibility of internship in the declared organization.

Dates of control points

• By December 1, 2025: fill out the form regarding the contract conclusion/search for internship from the Career Center

• By December 27, 2025: fill out and sign the Individual Assignment with the company supervisor and HSE supervisor (Master’s Thesis supervisor) and upload it to Smart LMS

• January 12, 2026 – March 13, 2026: internship period

• By March 20, 2026 inclusive: upload to Smart LMS signed internship report documents

Reporting and Evaluation

For the Industrial Internship, each student and his local PTE initiator develop an individual task with the possibility of its subsequent adjustment during the passage of professional training practice. The assignment for professional training practice should correspond to its specifics, specific goals and objectives. The PTE initiator of the Industrial Practice from the external organization develops a work schedule (plan) for conducting the Industrial Practice. The PTE Assignment Template Form is provided.

At the end of the internship by March 20, 2026 inclusive, students provide to Smart LMS:

• the report on the Industrial Practice (20-25 pages) with the signatures of the head of the practice from the organization and the supervisor (see the approximate structure in the Practice Program Appendix 2);

• a stamped review from the organization where the Industrial Practice was conducted (signed by the head of the practice on behalf of the organization), containing a description of the work done by the student and an assessment of its quality.

The final grade for the report on the Industrial Practice is evaluated according to the formula (given in the Practice Program) by the relevant commission under the guidance of the Academic Supervisor of the Programme.

In accordance with the curriculum, students of the program in the 1st and 2nd year carry out compulsory projects. Project work weight is 3 credits (ECTS).

The projects are offered by the academic supervisor.
The projects should be submitted in the wxamination week of 4th module in the 1st year of studying and 2nd module in the 2nd year.

Failure to complete the project is considered academic debt.

Selection of Thesis Topics:

Before submitting an application, the thesis topic must be coordinated with the thesis supervisor via email or other communication methods. Topics are chosen using the SmartPro 3.0 system: https://smartpro.hse.ru/.

There are two options for submitting applications:

• Choose a topic from the list approved by the academic supervisor and send the application to the thesis supervisor.

• Submit an initiative application by preliminarily developing your own topic with the supervisor, then submitting the application with all required fields completed.

Note that each supervisor may approve only a limited number of applications. Information on the maximum number of applications per supervisor and the number of already submitted applications is available next to their details.

Students who do not choose a thesis topic and supervisor by the deadline will be assigned both within 10 working days after the deadline. The academic supervisor selects an available topic and supervisor from previously agreed options and proposals. If no topics are available with a specific supervisor, the academic supervisor selects and agrees on a topic/supervisor with the department head involved in the program.

Changing topic or supervisor:

• Change of thesis supervisor is possible no later than 2 months before the thesis upload deadline; until March 14, 2026.

• Change of thesis topic is possible no later than 1 month before the thesis upload deadline; until April 14, 2026.

The change process goes through the SmartPro 3.0 system and uses the same application procedure as the original choice.

Uploading Master’s Thesis to the Antiplagiarism system:

The final thesis version must be uploaded by May 14, 2026, by 18:00. The file must be in electronic format (*.doc, *.rtf, *.txt, or PDF saved from a text editor) and unscanned. After upload, the thesis undergoes plagiarism control.

Attention: In case of proven plagiarism, the student may face disciplinary actions as per the Procedure for Taking Disciplinary Actions Against HSE University Students, Student Internal Regulations at HSE.

The final thesis submission is only via the electronic system in the student’s LMS account. Paper copies are not accepted.
