Study Process

An academic year is divided on 4 modules 8-12 weeks each with a session period at the end.

There is no extra time to prepare for the session. During the session, students can be assigned no more than one exam per day.

The exam is the last element of course assessment. It starts no earlier than 9:00 and ends no later than 21:00. The duration of the exam is no more than 4 academic hours.

The assessment on the interim examinations is calculated using a formula that uses each of the assessments on the control elements. The formulas for each course are different.
HSE uses a 10-point grading scale. Teacher can use any scale within ongoing assessment.

Grade book is electronic. All grades are set in the statement and then appear in the students' personal electronic account in LMS.

Teachers record the ongoing assessment results in ongoing assessment record sheets. Interim or final grades on the discipline are set in the interim assessment record sheet.

Students must meet the provisions of their educational programme in good faith, whereby they must:

  • complete the curriculum, including attending classes as per the timetable;
  • seek academic advice from teachers and teaching assistants (if students experience difficulties in mastering their educational programme);
  • have no academic failures, or have failed no more than two differing curricular elements before the retake period;
  • study independently for classes in line with course syllabi (e.g., explore bibliography and other courses as prescribed by respective syllabi), complete assignments given by teachers under respective syllabi, and engage in assessment elements.

Students who fail interim examinations (prior to retakes) for three or more courses during a single semester shall be subject to expulsion as per HSE University's initiative owing to their failure to meet the provisions of their educational programme in good faith.
