HSE Rises in U.S. News Best Global Universities Ranking
The Higher School of Economics has significantly improved its position in the U.S. News Best Global Universities subject ranking in mathematics, placing 107th this year. HSE also rose in the U.S. News Best Global Universities institutional ranking, as well as the social sciences and public health subject ranking.
The university rose 37 places in mathematics and is now ranked third among all Russian universities. Additionally, HSE grew 61 places in the institutional ranking and 23 places in social sciences and public health. The university was the only school in Russia to place in the latter.
Only 14 universities from Russia made it onto the ranking, 12 of which represent Project 5-100. The Russian schools were in 13 different subject rankings, increasing the number of subjects compared with last year and improving their rankings across the board.
The American media corporation U.S. News publishes both a global university ranking that assesses all fields, as well as subject rankings in 22 different areas. This year’s U.S. News ranking included 1,250 universities from 75 countries.
HSE University was able to place high on the Graduate Employability Ranking (201-250), outpacing its main competitors for the first time in five years. This year, the number of candidates to the ranking was increased 15% (758 universities), with new 36 universities joining the list.
HSE University has firmly entered the Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU), which is known for its rigorous selection criteria. After placing in the ranking for the first time last year, HSE University maintained its position despite increased competition — more than 50 new universities entered the ranking for the first time this year.
HSE recently placed 39th in the QS Top-50 ‘Under 50’ ranking, thus maintaining its position in the Top-40 despite increasing competition in this special academic category.
In 2019 the Higher School of Economics has climbed from 84th to 60th place in the Time Higher Education (THE) world ranking of young universities. HSE University is the only Russian university to place in the top 100 of this ranking.
HSE University has improved its position in the QS institutional ranking by 21 places this year, taking 7th place among Russian universities. The advancement comes thanks to a significant improvement in academic reputation and assessment of university graduates by employers.
HSE University has placed 5th in the annual ranking of the best Russian universities compiled by the RAEX agency (RAEX Analytics). The university also came in third in terms of demand for graduates.
HSE University has appeared in 10 subject areas and six subject categories of the Expert Analytical Centre ranking of university research productivity. Moreover, HSE ranked 1st in five areas and two sections.
A new supercomputer, which has been recently set up at MIEM, will allow the university to carry out high quality research in deep learning and mathematical modeling. The computer was ranked sixth in the April Top-50 ranking of supercomputers in Russia.
The latest results of the QS World University Rankings by Subject demonstrate that Russian universities are continuing to make great strides in international rankings. Among the Russian universities that made the rankings, HSE tops the list with 16 specific subjects and 3 broad subject areas entering the rankings. Compared to last year, HSE has improved its performance in almost all subjects.
