HSE Among Top Three Russian Universities with Highest Number of Subjects in Shanghai Ranking
Among Russian universities, HSE University has the second highest number of subjects to be included in the Shanghai subject ranking (Global Ranking of Academic Subjects 2020). HSE University and ITMO University, respectively, are included in 7 subject rankings, while Moscow State University is represented in 12 subject rankings.
Changes in the methodology of the Shanghai subject ranking this year led to significant changes in the ranking results. According to the compilers of the ranking, the previous PUB indicator—the number of articles published in WoS on a given subject—has been replaced by the number of articles published in Q1 (first quartile) journals. The change was introduced in order to encourage higher quality publications.
HSE University ranks first among Russian universities in 6 subjects, and second in Management. HSE ranks among the top 101-150 universities in Mathematics and Political Sciences, the top 151-200 universities in Sociology, and the top 201-300 in Economics.
The University has improved its standing in Psychology, where it now ranks among the top 301-400. In Business Administration, it retained its positions from last year in the same group. HSE University also ranks among the top 401-500 universities in Management.

First-year undergraduate students of the HSE Faculty of Biology and Biotechnology took part in an online seminar at George Mason University (USA). The seminar was part of the Coronavirus Research Update summer course, taught by Professor Ancha Baranova.

SuperJob, a job search service, has published a ranking of technical universities based on earnings of graduates in the 2014-2019 cohort. HSE University has improved its position this year, rising from seventh to fifth place in the ranking.
HSE University took 298th place in the 2021 QS World University Rankings, improving its ranking by 24 positions compared to last year and entering the first quartile of the world’s leading universities. HSE University now ranks among the world’s top 300 universities in two international rankings: the Quacquarelli Symonds World University Rankings and the Times Higher Education World University Rankings.
