From April 5 to 9, the international conference "One-Parameter Semigroups of Operators" was held in an online format.

On April 9, 2021, the International Laboratory of Digital Transformation in Public Administration, together with British scientists from the University of Bradford Professor V. Virakkodi, S. Sivaraja and Professor V. Vikantesh, held a Theory Workshop on the interaction of citizens and public digital platforms.

In celebration of Russia’s Year of Science and Technology, we continue our series about HSE University’s international laboratories, which are headed by world-class scientists and scholars. The first of these, the Laboratory of Algebraic Geometry and Its Applications, was established in October 2010. Below, Laboratory Head Dmitry Kaledin discusses the Lab’s history, research, achievements, and current activities.

April officially marked the beginning of the peak forest fire season across Russia, and preventative measures have recently been discussed at the Ministry of the Russian Federation for Civil Defence, Emergencies and Elimination of Consequences of Natural Disasters (also known as The Ministry of Emergency Situations, MChS) and at a meeting in which the President of the Russian Federation participated. Regions have already started taking measures to prevent forest fires, and a team of researchers from the Faculty of Economic Sciences of HSE University has proposed a mathematical model by which the effectiveness of these measures can be evaluated. Using this algorithm, they compared Russian regions in terms of the success of their firefighting activities. Details of the work have been published in the collection ‘Dynamics of Disasters: Impact, Risk, Resilience, and Solutions’.

A student online school-conference in mathematics has been held at the Nizhny Novgorod campus of the Higher School of Economics.

On the 30s of March 2021 head of the laboratory, Elena Iarskaia-Smirnova presented at the HSE open seminar on education a lecture on the origins and transformation of the concepts of 'integration' and 'inclusion' in social theory, social policy, and the agenda of social movements.

On the 1st of April at 12:00 is taking place a new seminar of the research group 'Inclusive society: a comparative analysis of the structural conditions and of the opinions of insiders in Russia and in the neighbouring countries.' During the seminar we are discussing the problems of inclusive education in Kazakhstan and we are presenting the first results of a survey conducted among parents and teachers.

On March 25 Ekaterina Zibrova (PhD, ECOPSY Consulting consultant, Associate member of the Science Slam Russia Association for the Promotion of Science and Innovation, D&I expert) took part in the "Culture matters" research seminar with the report "Problems of studying cultural diversity in Russia".
