Course Syllabus

Abstract

The course “Licensing and compliance” is aimed at developing an understanding the mode of behavior in the media in the case of arguments regarding the complaints of the public regarding the content that might seem controversial regarding the mainstream opinion. Students will learn about the main source’s controversy of the media, basic principles of compliance with media regulation in Russia and other parts of the world; legal basis of problem solutions in the sphere of media, They will learn to use and protect their professional rights of journalists in the case of public. Students will be provided with the case studies in the sphere.

Learning Objectives

• To build an understanding of the compliance theory in the various types of the media production
• To build an understanding of the compliance theory in the various types of the media production
• To train the students in the application of legal knowledge in complicated cases and controversies – special attention will be paid to alternative media content protection from the complaints of the mainstream public

Expected Learning Outcomes

• analyzes nature of compliance methods with Russian and international legislation
• analyzes the pros and cons of legal actions in the case of complaints
• classifies and distinguishes the compliance to licensing regulations within various legal systems
• classifies and interprets cases of licensing protection in the case of complaints
• classifies the limitations of the broadcast code in various countries
