Аннотация

In the first part of the course, students will become acquainted with Jewish literature of the Second Temple era (5th century BC - 1st century AD), including the so-called. deuterocanonical books of the Old Testament, as well as apocryphal works. An important role both for understanding the history of Judaism and for understanding the history of the emergence of Christianity is played by the so-called Judeo-Hellenistic literature (Jewish literature in Greek), which arose at the intersection of the Jewish and Greek cultural worlds. The most important discovery of the 20th century in the field of studying the biblical tradition was the discovery of the Dead Sea Scrolls (Qumran Scrolls). Listeners will learn how this discovery literally upended our understanding of turn-of-the-era Judaism—the era immediately preceding the advent of Christianity. The main part of this semester course introduces students to the history and current state of New Testament studies: the composition of the New Testament, the so-called synoptic problem (how the first three Gospels relate to each other), the lexical, semantic and theological specifics of each of the Gospels, the problem of dating individual books of the New Testament. The question of the authorship of the letters of the Apostle Paul and the question of the historical Jesus will be discussed. The lecture course will be complemented by “slow reading” of passages from the New Testament with detailed analysis and commentary.
