Course Syllabus

Abstract

Students learn the language starting with the Elementary level. The course aims at developing basic communicative competences in the chosen foreign language that include: communicative competence, language competence, socio-cultural competence, cognitive competence.
Learning Objectives

Learning Objectives

  • Gain basic knowledge of Japanese phonetics, vocabulary and grammar.
  • Basic skills of constructing a coherent text/dialogue within the studied topics, as well as skills of translation from Russian into Japanese and from Japanese into Russian using the studied vocabulary and grammatical constructions.
Expected Learning Outcomes

Expected Learning Outcomes

  • 1. Students demonstrate the knowledge of the hiragana and katakana, have an understanding of the phonetic system of Japanese language.
  • Students can build basic sentences, talk about themselves, ask and show directions, talk about costs and order
  • Students can talk about what happened to them in the past, add adverbs and adjectives to their speech, combine several verbs in one sentence; allow or forbid an action
  • Students can read and write kanji of basic verbs, directions
  • Students can use simple forms for everyday communication
  • Students can compare subjects and classes of subjects with each other, talk about future plans, talk about feeling unwell, use constructions of excuses and wishes
  • Studens can write and read about 145 Japanese characters

  • 3. Chapters 4-6: "The First Date", "A Trip to Okinawa", "A Day in Robert's Life"
  • 4. Chapters 7-9: "Family Picture", "Barbecue", "Kabuki"
  • 5. Chapters 10-12: "Winter Vacation Plans", "After the Vacation", "Feeling Ill"
