Course Syllabus

Abstract

This elective is an advanced course intended for students who wish to take a deeper insight into the nature of heritage languages. Students are given the opportunity to examine various approaches and methodologies applied to heritage languages and their speakers to effectively compare them with monolinguals and L2 learners.

Learning Objectives

  • Students will reason about the nature of heritage languages; identify linguistic theories that benefit from the research of heritage languages; demonstrate knowledge of the most common methodologies applied in the research of heritage languages, and evaluate popular views on the nature of their speakers.

  • Learn how to investigate data produced by heritage speakers and analyze it in relation to its specific features
