Course Syllabus

Abstract

The research seminar spans various aspects of foreign language teachers' contunuous professional development, including preparation and taking international language exams along with teacher-training courses and exams. Emphasis is put on young learners, teaching for exams, and business processes in managing organizations involved in foreign language teaching. This seminar focuses on learners' needs analysis.

  • To familiarize oneself with CEF Professional Profile and its application in needs analysis and course design

  • Origins and theoretical basis of language needs analysis
  • Types of needs in language learning: ‘necessities’; ‘lacks’; ‘wants’; ‘target needs’; ‘learning needs’
  • Types of analysis: target situation analysis; deficiency analysis; strategy analysis; language audit
  • Language needs on three different levels (macro; micro; meso)
  • Typology of research methods in needs analysis
  • CEF: professional profile and its six parts as a means of needs analysis
  • Creating your own CEF Professional Profile
