About DeCAn center

The Research Laboratory of Decision Choice and Analysis was established on June 26, 2009 with most of its work focused on the theory of individual, social and multicri­terial choice, mathematical modelling and empirical analysis of decision-making in various economic and political institutions, game-theoret­ic models and methods in economics and political theory, and data analysis (methods of clustering, pattern recognition, etc.). On April 24, 2010, the Laboratory received scientific and educational status, and on June 30, 2011 the Laboratory received international status. In 2020 the International Laboratory of Decision Choice and Analysis was renamed to the International Center of Decision Choice and Analysis.
Full name: “International Center of Decision Choice and Analysis”.

MAIN GOALS OF DeCAn CENTER:

—   conduct applied and fundamental scientific research, expertise, consultations in the field of theory and practice of making, analyzing and supporting decisions contributing to the strengthening and expansion of the positions of NRU-HSE and its branches in the educational, scientific markets and consulting services;

—   use the research work and its results in the educational process: create new and modernize existing courses related to the decision-making theory; involve bachelor, master and PhD students of the Higher School of Economics and its branches in the scientific and practical activities of the DeCAn center by providing pre-diploma internship practice, course work, thesis preparation, PhD thesis research;

—   develop and implement programs for advanced training and vocational retraining of specialists in the field of the decision-making theory;

—   participate in the preparation and implementation of international programs of the Center.

 

SCIENTIFIC FUNCTIONS:

—   conduct fundamental research in the field of theory and practice of decision-making, data analysis;

—   conduct applied research to analyze and support decisions in specific areas of economics, informatics, management, public administration;

—   develop models and conduct research on the problems of individual and collective choice, voting in large and small groups on decision support systems;

—   examine and test computer decision support systems developed by other organizations or scientific groups;

—   organize the leading scientific forums of DeCAn center;

—   support the participation of DeCAn center staff in the work of leading scientific forums;

—   support the high publication activity of DeCAn center staff.

 

EDUCATIONAL FUNCTIONS:

—   develop new and modernize existing training courses and teaching materials taking into account the research carried out at DeCAn center;

—   organize the work of students of the Higher School of Economics and its branches on thesis and course works;

—   organize thesis research of undergraduates and postgraduates of the NRU HSE and its branches;

—   organize educational research seminars and workshops for students and graduate students of the Higher School of Economics and its branches;

—   teach students and graduate students of the Higher School of Economics and its branches about methods of research activities;

—   instill the skills of working with information resources, databases, modern computer decision support systems to students and postgraduates of the Higher School of Economics and its branches;

—   organize the internships for students and postgraduates of the Higher School of Economics and its branches at DeCAn center;

—   organize the internships for students and postgraduates of the Higher School of Economics and its branches in private and state institutions, both commercial and non-commercial, in government and local authorities, in international organizations;

—   organize the advanced training and vocational retraining of specialists in the field of decision-making theory.

 

INTERNATIONAL FUNCTIONS:

—   attract leading foreign experts to participate in the research and educational work of DeCAn center;

—   organize and hold international scientific events (conferences, seminars, summer schools, etc.);

—   organize the interaction of DeCAn center with the leading foreign scientific centers in order to conduct joint scientific research and implement educational projects;

—   conduct international expertise of the results of scientific research and educational programs on the specialization of DeCAn center.
