Master’s programme held 3 rd graduation ceremony for the students receiving their degrees. Totally 35 graduates were honored to obtain their master’s diplomas, with 9 students as participants of the double degree programme with TU Berlin. The Academic supervisor of the programme Dirk Meissner, ISSEK Deputy Director Alexander Sokolov, Head of the Department for Economy and Science from the German Embassy Thomas Graf and Coordinator of the Double Degree programme from TUB Jan Kratzer congratulated the master’s students, expressed their wishes for the future endeavors and encouraged to take advantage of all further challenges through the prism of knowledge acquired at the programme.

Jan Kratzer:

A part of your Master’s programme is embedded in a dual degree structure with the Technical University with its Master’s programme Innovation Management, Entrepreneurship and Sustainability, started in 2010. Since then this Master’s programme has evolved into the most popular one. This year we have received more than a thousand applications. In 2015 HSE joined this Master’s programme offering an opportunity to stay one year in Berlin, one year here, in Moscow, and obtain two Master’s degrees. The Master’s programme is aimed at equipping  students with expert knowledge: some end up in innovation departments of leading companies such as Deutsche Bank, Telecom, Volkswagen, Bosch, others go to consultancies, others do PhD. Such expert knowledge actually qualifies to go in numerous directions and offers you a lot of opportunities. You have taken the first step in your life, now open the door to use these opportunities and decide which way you go!

 

 

Thomas Graf:

The Master’s programme you’ve gone through as we believe in German Embassy is a fine example of the modern approach in science policy in Germany and Russia where universities, scientists and business work hand in hand. As you know, innovations that is the major focus of your studies result from the interrelationship between societal demand, scientific development and technological possibilities. The Master’s programme is not only a great intellectual challenge and achievement, but also an important contribution to successful development of German-Russian relations in general. And by participating in a joint programme graduates demonstrate that these relations are about  people-to-people contacts as well. I would like to thank all involved in these efforts which are an indispensable contribution to our overall bilateral relations.

 

 

Vlada Brilliantova, double degree programme, TUB:

I would like to thank those who were guiding us through the courses here, at HSE, and also in Berlin. I am grateful for your open-minded approach, willingness to help and inspirational ideas. And I hope that in the not-too-distant future we will observe more and more such studying programmes across the globe, and HSE with Governance of STI programme will contribute to establishing the best practices for their curricula.

Now, when I am through these two amazing years in two different countries with eleven group projects and friends from all over the world, I realize how valuable STI programme is to me. I formulated three observations that might be of interest for our successors.

• Governance of STI is a programme that allows for a deep dive into innovation. It’s not just about risk management or venturing of innovation.This is the programme that really investigates into multiple aspects related to innovations and thus provides a multifaceted picture of what will the future be like.
• Being a part of this programme implies knowing something that only really a tiny percentage of people on the globe know. And this is what I am very proud of. Being a part of STI means that you are a pioneer in some research fields related to novel technologies, innovation commercialization or concept of knowledge triangle. An STI student is a very brave person that sometimes has to dive into a blue ocean.
• Governance of STI gives you an access to knowledge that is now already driving and will increasingly drive economies in the future. And this programme gathers together people at the frontline of the changes for the better.

Gero Parzefall, double degree programme, TUB:

I will talk about how we can see life as a pizza. Right now we have just finished our studies and formed a nice round circle of dough – now it’s time to choose the toppings and to create our own unique recipe. I think of all the experiences and impressions we make as ingredients from which we can choose the toppings for our pizza.

One of the most important things the programme taught me is to be constantly looking for new ideas and to be open for creative and innovative ways of how to bake a pizza. And it gave some of us the opportunity to go abroad, leave our comfort zone and look for special ingredients that we surely won’t find at home.

Also, I am aware now that the first few pizzas I will try to bake won’t be the best and some of them might even burn. But as long as you are learning from the failures and are willing to find creative solutions to the problems, burning your pizza does not look so bad at all.

Lastly, I learned how important it is to share your pizza with friends and to try other people’s pizza. And if you find a really tasty one, don’t just try to copy the whole recipe, but rather find out which ingredient makes it special and try to add it to your own. But be aware that it might taste different on your pizza.

And in the end, I hope everyone of us will come up with a recipe he or she is proud to share.

Eduard Melkumov:

To my mind the programme is unique due to its three main peculiarities.

First, I believe that combining studies at the programme with full-day work is a certain challenge that makes your master years especially interesting. You are learning how to manage everything and make it on time.

Second, the Institute for Statistical Studies and Economics of Knowledge gains its greatest advantage in a strong team of faculty members with very diverse backgrounds. Students are taught not only by academic professors, but practitioners such as Vasily Osmakov or Igor Agamirzyan. The team of professionals with rich academic and work experience adds to strong theoretical part a valuable practice-oriented component for students. This is what allows students to better comprehend the courses and build the materials into a complex vision of modern STI Policy. I would heartily thank  my supervisors Veronika Belousova and Vasily Osmakov.

Last but not the least, programme provides in-depth knowledge of research methodology alongside with a hands-on experience with complex, well-constructed research analysis. This ensures a great benefit for candidates interested in academic career or PhD, as well as for working experience while preparing analytical reports.

 

 

At the end of the ceremony Professor Dirk Meissner congratulated Programme’s faculty member Vitaly Roud with his successful defense and graduation from the PhD programme of TU Berlin.  That is a great level-up for the programme and faculty, and an incentive for the students and graduates!
