New Program Features: Fieldwork and Language Diversity
In Russia, there are over a hundred minority languages. Some are on the verge of extinction, while some - few - are actually growing; and all require extensive documentation. Our current fieldwork projects include ongoing work on language documentation and description on West Caucasian, East Caucasian and Uralic languages, including sociolinguistic research on multilingualism in Daghestan. In most cases we work in teams, making a field trip a perfect opportunity for beginners to learn fieldwork practices.
