On February 13, the director of HSE’s Centre for Studies of Civil Society and Non-Profit Sector, Irina Mersiyanova, presented the results of the project entitled ‘Social Activity of Muscovites in Figures’. The research was conducted by the Centre in December 2017. 2018 has been proclaimed the Year of the Volunteer by the President of the Russian Federation.

On January 29, 2018, the Centre for Education Law at HSE’s Institute of Education hosted an expert seminar on ‘Minority and Linguistic Rights in Education’. The seminar focused on key issues around linguistic rights of minorities, in particular with regard to education as a basic human right.
A feeling of freedom and a sense of responsibility are directly related to one another. Scientists from HSE’s International Laboratory of Positive Psychology of Personality and Motivation, the University of Missouri and Omsk State University have become the first to prove this link in a study involving both Russian and American participants.


On January 23, 2018, Roger Smith – Emeritus Reader in the History of Science at Lancaster University (UK) and Honorary Scientific Researcher at the Institute of Philosophy in Moscow – delivered a lecture entitled ‘The History of the Senses’. The lecture contributed to the history course taught by Professor Irina Savelieva, Director of the Poletayev Institute for Theoretical and Historical Studies in the Humanities, for second year Master's students.
Inhabitants of Moscow and St Petersburg live significantly longer than people living in other regions of Russia, according to a recent study carried out by researchers at the Higher School of Economics.
