DeCAn lab organized a course of seminars on October 1-2, 2018 where the members of our labaratory talked about their recent research results and further potential directions. The main goal of the event is to consolidate different research projects of our faculty and inform our colleagues about key research directions of DeCAn lab.

On October 1-2, the International Conference “Formal Philosophy” was held in the Higher School of Economics. This conference was organized by the International Laboratory for Logic, Linguistics and Formal Philosophy.

Laboratory staff Helen Tevanyan, Michal Rosenwald, Alexander Shein, Anton Zaikin, Maria Poptsova, Michael Gelfand took part in the conference. Mikhail Gelfand - head of the section "Bioinformatics".

On October 1st, 2018, the MOOC Language Testing During Awake Brain Surgery will begin. The online course was developed by Professor Dr. Roelien Bastiaanse.

Russian Supercomputing Days is a key Russian supercomputer conference with international participation that annually gathers in Moscow the leading scientists and experts in high-performance computing and computer science. This year, the staff of the International Laboratory for Supercomputer Atomistic Modelling and Multi-scale Analysis took part in the conference (Nikolay Kondratyuk, Vsevolod Nikolskiy, Genri Norman, Alexander Semenov, Alexey Timofeev and Mikhail Khalilov).

A group of laboratory staff headed by Professor Fuad Aleskerov returned from the Arctic University of Norway (UiT). The HSE scholars and students participated in the first field course which was held from September 24 to September 28, 2018 as part of a three-year project on international cooperation between NRU HSE and the Arctic University of Norway (UiT).

On 6–7 September, the Moscow City Government Department of Natural Resources Management and Environmental Protection hosted the 2nd Climate Forum of Russian Cities. Alexander Chulok, Director of the HSE ISSEK Centre for Science and Technology Foresight, took part in the panel session 9 'Present-Day Science: Digest of the Global Research'. He made the presentation 'Mapping the Global S&T Landscape for the City of Moscow: Possibilities Offered by Big Data Analysis'.

On October 29-30, 2018 Cortical Codes: Control and Perception conference will be held at NRU HSE. This year the conference will be dedicated to the technology and the development of brain-machine interfaces.

IIMS and ICSID have been actively implementing their Visiting Researchers Program for a long time. Every year, at least ten researchers from all around the world come to Moscow. Most recently, Ashley Blum, a PhD student at the University of California in Los Angeles, visited ICSID and spent about a month and a half in Moscow. We talked to Ashley about her research project and her life in the Russian capital.
