Abstract
The proposed discipline is the third part of the Basic English Course for General Communication Purposes, designed for all second-year students at the Higher School of Economics who speak English at the B1 – B1+ level.
The purpose of the course is to develop students' foreign language communicative competence at least at the B2 level, which will ensure practical command of English for the purposes of interpersonal and intercultural communication. Discussing modern achievements and problems of the global world, reading authentic texts on current issues will allow students to develop the ability to express their opinions on various topics. The course also involves the systematization of the lexical and grammatical material provided by the program, as well as familiarization with the format of Independent English Exam. Important tasks for the development of oral and written language competencies are the formation of skills to produce clear and logical oral monologues, write essays of various types in the format of Independent English Exam, and make written descriptions of various types of graphs.
The main educational and methodical complex used in the learning process is the “New Language Leader” Upper-Intermediate, which involves the study of the following topics: 9.Art. 10. Psychology. 11. Cultures. 12. Technology.
The final means of control in module 3 at the end of the course are assignments in the format of Independent English Exam for all types of speech activity: listening, reading, speaking, writing. Successful completion of the English language course should provide an opportunity to obtain any international certificate confirming readiness and ability to study at international higher professional education programs.
