Course Syllabus
Abstract
The discipline "The Art of Mongolia and Tibet" is taught in the eighth semester in the fourth year. It is based on such disciplines as "The History of Mongolia and Tibet", "Tibetan Buddhism". The course is dedicated to the study of the artistic culture of Mongolia and Tibet. The field of consideration includes both the aesthetic approach in culture in general, and artistic practices as a specialized field of activity of artists and artisans. The main purpose of the course is to teach students to work with the material of the artistic culture of Mongolia and Tibet as a unique source that reveals the peculiarities of lifestyle, perception and worldview in a particular period of the history of the Mongols and Tibetans. The existence of artistic practices is considered in their relation to other areas of cultural activity and traditional knowledge. The main attention is paid to those monuments and phenomena of artistic culture that occupied a significant place in social processes and intellectual trends. Such for the Mongols and Tibetans is Buddhist art.
