Portfolio’s composition and evaluation criteria

Portfolio Components:

Diploma and academic transcripts

If you have not yet received your Bachelor’s diploma, please submit an official copy of your most recent academic transcript including all courses completed and grades received.

Letter of motivation (about 1000 characters)

In your letter of motivation, please discuss 1) why you are applying to this program, 2) why you have chosen to specialize in this field, and 3) your academic and professional interests connected to Asia. Please reference your previous educational, academic, or professional experiences that are connected with this focus (for example, research, trainings, civil service, teaching, entrepreneurship, etc.). Please state your career goals and explain how this programme will help you to achieve them.

Letters of motivation will be evaluated for content, structure, and narrative style.

Letter of recommendation

Essay (10,000-12,000 characters)

All applicants must submit an original essay that addresses issues of development in Asia.

Participation in research activities (optional)

Please describe your participation in research conferences, seminars, workshops, projects, centers, and labs.
If you have participated in a programme organized by HSE (Olympiad, Summer School, Winter School, etc.), please note the programme and the dates of participation.

Publications (optional)

Please list any publications that you have authored or edited.

Academic honours and awards (optional)

If you have received any academic honours or awards, please list them and the dates that you received them.

Demonstrated knowledge of Asian language skills (optional)

Please demonstrate that you are proficient in an Asian language by providing language certificates (HSK Chinese Proficiency Test, Japanese Proficiency Test (JPT), Korean Proficiency Test (KPT), etc.) or provide proof that you acquired language skills in your undergraduate studies.

Language study or academic scholarships in Asia (optional)

Scholarships and studies of a period of six months or longer will be evaluated. Please provide certificates, diplomas, and references to confirm your participation.
