FAQ

Can I apply if I don’t have educational background in psychology?

Yes, any person with a university diploma (bachelor degree minimum) can apply. However, during the selection process applicants without psychological background compete with those who have diploma in psychology. In that case, a person needs to show his actual knowledge of psychology through a well-written motivation letter and research summary/project proposal. Admitted students without a psychology diploma are advised to pass a preliminary online course on social psychology.

Where can I see more info on the admission process?

Requirements for application are here, description of the procedure is here, and all remaining info for international applicants is at the International Admissions page.

Is it possible to pass the courses remotely?

No, Applied Social Psychology is a full-degree and full-day program.

Will I be able to work during my studies?

It depends on the conditions of admission. Quota scholarship students cannot work officially because of their student visa. Fee-paying students can work if they prepare a working visa through their employer. Timetable allows to work in the first half of the day (classes are usually from 18:00 till 21:00, sometimes from 15:00 till 21:00). You can look through current timetable for reference.

How difficult is it to get the tuition-free quota scholarship?

The competition is usually 2-3 people for one quota scholarship place. However, even applicants without a diploma in psychology receive scholarships every year, because the selection is based on the actual knowledge of psychology and research methods. This has to be shown through the motivation letter, research summary/project proposal and interview.

Do you have any other types of scholarships?

Yes, the applicants who didn’t receive a tuition-free quota scholarship, but still are ranked high enough are offered tuition fee discounts. Applicants who scored 75/100 and above on their portfolio receive a 50% discount for both years. Those who scored 60-74/100 receive a 25% discount. Further information on tuition fee discounts can be found here.

Where is the department located?

At the Moscow center, Myasnitskaya street, near the main HSE buildings. It is an old street with beautiful architecture and plenty of places to hang out. It’s a 10-minute walk to the Red Square and the main Moscow street, Tverskaya.

Can I live in a dormitory?

Yes, HSE offers dorm rooms to every international student. The dorms are located within Moscow subway network and are easily accessible from the main campus. The rooms are for 2 or 3 people and there are kitchens/bathrooms for each 2-4 rooms. The cost is minimal ($15-25/month) and, if you receive a tuition-free scholarship, it comes with a small monthly stipend that covers the dorm cost.

What are the student’s prospects in terms of studying abroad?

The main mobility option is the 2nd diploma at Tilburg University (where willing and selected students go for their 2nd year). Besides that, HSE offers a huge number of short-term mobility options, which can be found here.
