Official statement of ASP Academic Supervisor

Dear students and applicants!

Starting from the 2023 academic year, the Master's program "Applied Social Psychology" will be realized in Russian. Of course, our current students will continue and complete their studies on the same conditions under which they have entered. Applicants for 2023-2024 year will be recruited for the Russian-taught program.

This decision was initiated by the Academic Council of the program and was supported by the HSE leadership. The main goal of this transition is to open the doors of our program wider for applicants. During admission campaigns, we, from time to time, faced the question of applicants at Open days about whether we plan to implement the program in Russian? This request partly prompted us to make this decision. A significant role in making this decision was played by the indefinite suspension of the double degree agreement with our partner, the University of Tilburg (Netherlands). As a result, the reasons of teaching students in English became nearly non-existent. The implementation of the program in Russian will allow us to expand the range of courses taught in the program, which was difficult while we were restricted to the English-speaking field.

The good news for applicants is that Applied Social Psychology is a distance (online) learning program. Thus, applicants who cannot come and live permanently in Moscow can complete the program and receive state-funded education remotely. The distance learning format is also very convenient for working students - it saves a lot of time and effort. However, please note that distance learning does not mean watching pre-recorded lectures, this is synchronous learning, so students need to attend lectures remotely (using Webinar or ZOOM) at a certain time in accordance with the schedule.

We do not refuse to accept foreign students, but now it will be foreign students with good command of Russian language. For international students, 5 state-funded places are still reserved.

For Russian applicants on the program, as before, there are 20 state-funded places and 5 places with tuition fees.

In conclusion, I would like to note that we maintain high teaching standards. Initially, our master's program was conceived and implemented in accordance with European educational standards (which then allowed us to get a double diploma with the University of Tilburg) and now, despite the transition to the Russian language of teaching, all these standards remain, as well as the quality of education.

We now live in difficult times, in a period of rapidly developing social and political processes that polarize society, highlight its strengths and weaknesses. And it is in these conditions that the profession of a social psychologist who understands the causes of these processes, the logic of their development and possible consequences, will be in demand more than ever. Therefore, we invite applicants to study on the Applied Social Psychology program in Russian.
