Registration is now open for the autumn 2023 international Study Tour Experience at HSE University. Applicants from outside Russia who are interested in applying to master’s programmes can spend two weeks as a student of HSE University’s campuses in Moscow, Perm, Nizhny Novgorod, and St Petersburg.

The Study Tour Experience, which is now in its third year, gives foreign applicants considering applying to master’s programmes an opportunity to experience life at HSE University. The next session will run in the autumn semester, from November 13–27, 2023. It will be held both in person and online.

Participation in the programme is free. Applicants will be selected based on their motivation letters and CVs. Participants can learn more about master’s programmes in Business and Management, Finance and Economics, Social and Political Sciences, Law, Data Science, and Media Management. The full list of fields and programmes will be expanded and updated.

Upon completion of the programme, each student will receive a certificate that they can include in their portfolio or CV.

Alexander Deev

‘Every year, we receive thousands of applications from all over the world—from people who have chosen to study at HSE University. And for those who haven’t made a final decision yet, we offer them the chance to personally experience what it is like to study at one of the best universities in Russia,’ explains Alexander Deev, Director of the International Admissions Office at HSE University.

Mikhail Mironyuk

According to Mikhail Mironyuk, Academic Supervisor of the Master’s programme ‘Politics. Economics. Philosophy’ (PEP), last year’s Study Tour Experience offered several programmes from the English-taught master’s programme. ‘The hybrid study format allowed participants to attend lectures and seminars,’ he explains. ‘They had a great opportunity to immerse themselves in the real study process and to work fully.’

Artem Uldanov

Artem Uldanov, Co-head of the PEP programme, highlights that the Study Tour Experience provides a reliable idea of the kind of material tackled in class, and allows participants to evaluate the work of teachers and the level of ability of students. ‘We have received positive feedback from participants of the programme and we hope that the experience gained will help our applicants in their choice of future learning trajectory,’ he said.

In the new academic year, the Master’s programme ‘Digital Humanities’ at HSE University-Perm will take part in the Study Tour Experience for the second time. According to Iliana Ismakaeva, Academic Supervisor of the programme, digital humanities is a promising and actively developing field worldwide at the crossroads of IT and the humanities.

Iliana Ismakaeva

‘Participants of the programme got to know the faculty of the programme, discussed why humanities students need programming skills and how to analyse humanities data in the course “Data Analysis in Python”, and also took part in a discussion on the adoption of digital methods in the humanitarian sciences as part of the research seminar,’ explains Iliana Ismakaeva.

Registration for the Study Tour Experience is open until October 1.
