HSE Places Second Among Russian Universities in THE Humanities Ranking
HSE University improved its performance from last year, entering the Top-200 of the Times Higher Education (THE) subject ranking in Arts and Humanities. We now place second among Russian universities and have the best results of the participants of the Russian Academic Excellence Project 5-100.
HSE University moved upwards in this subject ranking thanks to its strong reputation in teaching and research among international experts, as well as its publications and citations. Furthermore, our objective indicators in this regard have also improved, namely, the share of international faculty and total number of PhDs awarded.
This ranking includes a total of six Russian universities, with four of them being participants of 5-100 Project. MSU took 72nd place; the Top-300 now also includes SPSU, TSU and KFU; with UFU having entered the ranking for the first time (301-400).
The Arts and Humanities ranking covers such subjects as Archaeology, Architecture, Art & Design, Classics & Ancient History, English Language & Literature, History, Linguistics, Modern Languages, Performing Arts, Philosophy, and Theology, and Divinity & Religious Studies. The methodology of the rankings by subject is based on the same 13 indicators in five categories as in the institutional ranking, but the weight of the indicators changes from one subject area to another.
HSE University took second place in the new 2023 ranking of universities in the digital economy in Moscow and St Petersburg, having lost only to Bauman Moscow State Technical University. HSE University outperformed specialised IT universities such as Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology (third place) and ITMO University (fifth place), as well as Moscow State University (fourth place).
HSE University is this year’s leading Russian university in 11 subjects in the Shanghai Ranking. In seven of these, the university is the only Russian higher education institution to appear. This year, the university was ranked among the top universities for Communications for the first time and returned to the ranking for Sociology.
HSE University has risen 17 places in the list of top world universities and remains among the top five Russian universities in the Three University Missions Moscow International University Ranking (MosIUR).
SuperJob has published its annual ranking of Russian universities by salary earned by young professionals working in finance and economics. The ranking was based on data on university graduates for the period 2017–2022.
In 2023, HSE University took first place in the ‘Three University Missions’ subject rankings in economics, sociology, management and psychology. The university also entered the top three in terms of the number of subjects covered by the rankings.
The ‘Expert’ analytical centre has published its ranking of the publication activity of Russian universities for 2023. HSE University has improved its position in six subjects and two narrow sections.
HSE University took first place in the 2022 ranking of the top universities in Russia according to HeadHunter, the biggest online recruitment company in Russia. Its rankings are based on employer demand for graduates of Russian universities whose CVs are available on the hh.ru website.
For the third year running, HSE University has come first in the ranking of the 100 best universities in Russia, published for the fifth time by Forbes magazine.
HSE University has taken first place in the ranking of entrepreneurial universities compiled by the ‘Expert’ analytical centre. In four years, the university has risen by five positions. This year, HSE University received the maximum number of points in the categories ‘Founders’, ‘Startups’ and ‘Investments’.
HSE University is one of the best Russian universities (4th place) and consistently ranks among the top 150 best universities in the world (142nd place) according to the Three University Missions world ranking that has been published since 2017.
