Employers Put HSE in Top-3 Best Russian Universities in RAEX Ranking

HSE University has taken third place in terms of demand for graduates on the job market in the RAEX ranking. HSE University has been in the Top-5 universities in the RAEX ranking for the last four years.

In 2022, 206 out of 704 universities in Russia were assessed in the ranking. The top 5 were MSU, MIPT, St. Petersburg State University, MEPhI and HSE University. In total, RAEX agency's annual ranking of the 100 best universities includes universities from 31 regions of Russia. For the first time since the rankings began, more than half of the places in the top 100 were taken by universities from the two main metropolitan conurbations: 51 universities out of the top hundred are located in the Moscow and Leningrad regions of the country (including 33 in Moscow, 12 in St. Petersburg and 6 in the Moscow region).

Five years ago, 42 universities out of the top 100 in the ranking were located either in Moscow, the Moscow region or St. Petersburg, and three years ago there were 45 universities from these areas. It is clear that, in recent years, the balance has gradually changed towards the two main cities of the country. The authors of the list note that the situation may change in the future: state initiatives to support regional universities (in particular, the Priority 2030 programme) may well lead to a redistribution of places in the rankings in favour of non-metropolitan universities. At the moment, the top ten Russian universities include six participants of the first group of the research track of the Priority 2030 programme.

Previously HSE University took first place in four subject rankings and second place based on the number of gold medals among Russian universities in the Three University Missions subject rankings. The university achieved one of the top three spots on the list by receiving nine prizes in various fields.

This ranking draws both on statistical data and data from reputation surveys conducted by RAEX among 85,000 respondents: employers, representatives of the academic and research community, students and graduates.

When assessing the quality of education in institutions of higher education (50% of the score), RAEX considered the following groups of indicators: teaching quality, international integration, resource availability and admissions. To assess demand for graduates on the job market (30% of the score), RAEX analyzed the correlation between potential employers and career quality. Finally, university research activity (20% of the score) is based on the following indicators including innovative activity, research achievements, and academic infrastructure.
