HSE University Ranks Among Top 5 Russian Universities in Three University Missions
HSE University is one of the best Russian universities (4th place) and consistently ranks among the top 150 best universities in the world (142nd place) according to the Three University Missions world ranking that has been published since 2017.
The Moscow International University Ranking is rapidly developing and creating new subject-specific rankings. It has been tested on the data of Russian universities and subsequently applied to all participants of the overall ranking.
In 2022, HSE University has entered the top lists in 11 subject areas, taking:

first place in 4 subjects (economics, management, sociology, psychology)

third place in 3 subjects (mathematics, history and archaeology, linguistics and foreign languages)
HSE University is a globally recognised university with 47 places in the ARWU, QS, and THE world subject rankings. It ranks second among Russian universities along with MSU by number of subjects and has 16 places in the top 100. HSE University is the only Russian university represented in the subjects of ARWU Political Science, RU Public Administration, ARWU Psychology, ARWU Education, and QS Anthropology, providing Russia with a global competitive presence in these subject areas.
In 2022, the Three University Missions ranking list covered 1,800 universities from 103 countries (in 2021, the list included 1,650 universities), including 146 Russian universities. The top five universities in Russia are MSU, St Petersburg State University, MIPT, HSE University and MEPhI.
In addition to assessing traditional university missions of science and education, the Moscow International University Ranking also evaluates universities’ social mission, which is highly appreciated by international academic experts in the field of university rankings.
The ranking relies entirely on objective criteria approved by international experts; no reputational polls are used. Information sources include open data collected from the official websites of universities and national government agencies, as well as independent international sources such as Clarivate; Class Central (the largest aggregator of online course platforms); the online mass education platforms Open Education (Russia) and icourse163.org (China); Wikipedia; Google; Yandex; Baidu; social networks; Alexa, a global leader in web analytics; the websites of international student Olympiads; and websites of scientific awards from the IREG List of International Academic Awards.

HSE University took first place in the 2022 ranking of the top universities in Russia according to HeadHunter, the biggest online recruitment company in Russia. Its rankings are based on employer demand for graduates of Russian universities whose CVs are available on the hh.ru website.
HSE University Tops Forbes Best Russian Universities Ranking Third Year Running
For the third year running, HSE University has come first in the ranking of the 100 best universities in Russia, published for the fifth time by Forbes magazine.
HSE University Comes First in Russian Ranking of Entrepreneurial Universities
HSE University has taken first place in the ranking of entrepreneurial universities compiled by the ‘Expert’ analytical centre. In four years, the university has risen by five positions. This year, HSE University received the maximum number of points in the categories ‘Founders’, ‘Startups’ and ‘Investments’.
HSE University is Consistently in the Top-5 of the Best Russian Universities according to the Shanghai Ranking
HSE University has improved its positions in the Shanghai Ranking (ARWU) thanks to continued improvement in several indicators. For the second year in a row, HSE has ranked 4th or 5th among Russian universities, while globally, it has improved its rank to now being in the 601–700 group.
ICEF Once Again Comes First in HeadHunter Rankings
For the second year, ICEF leads the HeadHunter ranking of top Russian universities and faculties in economics and finance. Analysts from hh.ru examined the CV database of 2021–2022 graduates of Moscow universities on the hh.ru website. The ranking covered nine professional fields.
HSE Ranked Top Russian University by Number of Subjects in Shanghai Ranking
HSE University is represented in more subjects (10—an increase from 8 last year) in the Shanghai Global Ranking of Academic Subjects than any other Russian university.
