After conducting nationwide university competitions as part of the Digital Economy in the Russian Federation Programme, the Russian Ministry of Education and Science has selected a number of Russian universities to launch new international research centres and develop digital university models.

The first competition determined which universities will launch and operate a network of international research centres for the training and professional development of advanced students in mathematics, computer science, and technology. Winners of this competition included HSE University, Ural Federal University, St. Petersburg State University, Moscow Engineering Physics Institute, and Tomsk State University.

Universities selected during the second competition will create a network of centres for the development of Digital University models and the provision of associated support. HSE University took the first place in the final ranking of this competition.

Both competitions were held under Russia’s Personnel for the Digital Economy Programme, which is part of Russia’s 2019-2021 Digital Economy in the Russian Federation Programme.
