Human Potential: Approaches to Study and Measurement Human Capital Multidisciplinary Research Center has summed up the results on approaches to the study and measurement of human potential

From October 18 to December 17, 2022, a series of workshops dedicated to the research on the conceptual foundations in assessment and measurement of human potential took place. Within the framework of the seminars, both theoretical classes devoted to economic and sociological approaches to the study of human capital and practical workshops on the technique of its measurement were held under the guidance of the leading researchers from the Human Capital Multidisciplinary Research Center and young scientists, practitioners in human development.

HSE University Studies Human Capital as Part of Consortium

The Human Capital Interdisciplinary Research Centre (HCIRC) is a world-class research centre comprising a consortium of HSE University, RANEPA, MGIMO University, and the Institute of Ethnology and Anthropology of the Russian Academy of Sciences (RAS). Its work was highly rated by the RAS in 2021. Lilia Ovcharova, HSE University Vice Rector and initiator of the centre’s creation, talked to the HSE News Service about integration in international studies on active ageing, creating a database on development trends in human potential, studying the effects of digitalisation, and the centre’s priority activities for the future.

In Russia, norms and values ​​play a big role in the idea of ​​inequality. This is a conclusion made by scientists in the ninth scientific digest “The idea of ​​Russians About Income Inequality: Does Social Mobility Affect Them?” The issue was prepared by The Human Capital Multidisciplinary Research Center.

Work Quality, Subjective Perception of Income Difference and Gender Gap. Scientists from the HSE and RANEPA Discussed the Methods of Studying Inequality

On April 5, 2022 the Human Capital Multidisciplinary Research Center held a round table on Social and Economic Inequality and Current Research Agenda at the XXIII Yasin (April) International Scientific Conference on the Problems of Economic and Social Development. It was held in an online format in Russian and English languages with simultaneous translation. The event was organized within the framework of a research grant funded by the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation (grant ID: 075-15-2020-928).

Economic Crises Affect People’s Attitudes to Inequality

Inequality based on income, geography, gender, age, class and religion widens social gaps both within and between countries. During the XXIII Yasin (April) International Conference, experts discussed which dimensions of inequality have become especially important in the wake of the pandemic and the evolving economic crisis, and also examined how much more women work than men.

Svetlana Mareeva and her colleagues from the Center for Stratification Research have been awarded the grant from the Russian Science Foundation to continue the research project ‘Behavior Strategies of Population in the Post-Crisis Period: How Will the New Day-to-day Realities in the Lives of Russians Affect the "Corridor of Opportunities" for the Country's Development?’

The grant was awarded to the research team consisting of Svetlana Mareeva (project leader), Nataliya Tikhonova, Vasiliy Anikin, Yulia Lezhnina, Ekaterina Slobodenyuk and Anastasia Karavay within the framework of the President's Program for Research Projects "Research by scientific groups under the guidance of young scientists."

Young HSE University Researchers Win Moscow Government Award

This prize is annually awarded to doctoral students, researchers and professionals from Moscow-based institutions, as well as people with Candidate or Doctor of Sciences degrees. Researchers from HSE University won competition for the third year in a row and will be recognized at ceremony slated to take place on February 7 at the Kremlin Palace.

Svetlana Mareeva, Yulia Lezhnina and Vasily Anikin, employees of the Center for Stratification Studies, are honored with the 2019 Moscow  Government Award for Young Scientists in the "Social Sciences" nomination. The victory was awarded to the scientific team for a significant contribution to research of social structure and social inequality in modern Russian society.

4th International Russia Longitudinal Monitoring Survey of HSE User Conference

The 4th International RLMS-HSE User Conference was held at Higher School of Economics, Moscow, on 24-25 May 2019. Vasily Anikin, Senior Researcher at the Center for Stratification Studies, presented results of the study on social mechanisms that discouraged Russians’ investments in human capital accumulation in Russia in the period of economic growth in 2001-2014.

On 29 May, 2019, research and educational website IQ.hse.ru published the article “Dependence on the State. What Social Assistance are the Russians Waiting for?” based on the findings from the study by Vassily Anikin, Yulia Lezhnina, Svetlana Mareeva, and Ekaterina Slobodenyuk.

Results for 2017 Student Research Paper Competition Announced

The research paper competition was held in 21 subjects, including Arts and Design, an area that was just introduced this year. For the first time ever, international students are among the competition’s winners.
