Mirror symmetry is a relatively new field of mathematics which came into being in the 1990s. In 2017, HSE opened the International Laboratory for Mirror Symmetry and Automorphic Forms. The December conference, ‘Mirror Symmetry and Applications’, was a commemoration of its first year of operation.

International Conference "'Academic Revolutions?' Understanding Conceptual Renewal and Institutional Innovation in the Modern World"

On October 12-13 "'Academic Revolutions?' Understanding conceptual renewal and institutional innovation in the Modern World" conference was held in IGITI. The goal of the conference was to discuss issues in such fields as the history of natural and social sciences and humanities as well as contemporary sociology of knowledge and sociology of ideas in their application to changes in scientific outlook and academic practices since the early modern period, including the Big Science and the trends of the twenty-first century.

Transformative Power of Innovation

The Seventh International Academic Conference 'Foresight and STI Policy', traditionally organized by HSE ISSEK, took place in Moscow at the beginning of November. Mr Kato, the Director General of the National Institute of Science and Technology of Japan, was the key speaker at the event. He has talked to HSE News Service about his research interests, as well as about cooperation with HSE in the field of foresight research.

BRICS Global Business and Innovation

From September 14th – 15th, 2017, the first International BRICS Global Business and Innovation Conference took place at HSE in St. Petersburg. Scholars from all over the world came together to discuss the most pressing issues of global business and innovation in the context of BRICS as a factor of competition and sustainable development in era of growing uncertainty.

Helsinki Welcomes Seminar by International 21st Century Skills Consortium

On September 15–16, 2017, the University of Helsinki, Finland, welcomed the second seminar by the International Academic Consortium working as part of the Key Competencies and New Literacy project, a joint initiative between IOE and Sberbank’s Investment in Future foundation.

Faculty of Computer Science Staff Attend International Conference on Machine Learning
On August 6-11 the 34th International Conference on Machine Learning was held in Sydney, Australia. This conference is ranked A* by CORE, and is one of two leading conferences in the field of machine learning. It has been held annually since 2000, and this year, more than 1,000 participants from different countries took part.

First-year Student of MIEM Spoke at 19th IEEE CBI ’17

From July 24th to 27th, 2017, the 19th Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) Conference on Business Informatics took place in Thessaloniki, Greece. Over 100 experts took part in the event, and among the speakers was Pavel Abramov, first-year student of the HSE MIEM programme in Information and Computer Science.
