Evgeny Andreev, head of the laboratory, presented a lecture on the history, advantages, and challenges of calculating demographic indicators using hypothetical generations.

Joint Study by Molecular Physiology Laboratory and Kulakov National Medical Research Center Published in RUDN Journal of Medicine

Monocytes in preeclampsia and normal pregnancy
A research article by a collaborative team from the Molecular Physiology Laboratory at HSE University and the V.I. Kulakov National Medical Research Center for Obstetrics, Gynecology and Perinatology has been published in a leading medical journal. The study presents the first comparative analysis of immune-associated gene expression in classical blood monocytes from women with preeclampsia compared to physiological pregnancy.

A Space for Economic Experimentation: LEEF Organises Workshop for Early-Career Researchers
In early September 2025, the renewed Laboratory for Experimental Economics and Finance (LEEF) held its first workshop for early-career researchers. Its main distinguishing feature was that every presentation was based on the results of laboratory economic experiments. In particular, the speakers discussed what people consider a fair deal, how best to motivate employees, and how genes influence the willingness to cooperate and help others. All interested students and postgraduates were invited to collaborate with the laboratory.

Heike Knicker explored the biochemical effects of biochar; Manuel Delgado-Baquerizo spoke about soil biodiversity under global change; Laura B. Reyes Sánchez addressed soil science education; and Peter Schad discussed the future of international soil classification.

HSE Researchers Identify Molecular Markers of Hypoxia in Preeclampsia

Graphical abstract of the research
Researchers at the Molecular Physiology Laboratory of HSE University presented results of a multidisciplinary investigation into preeclampsia, correlating single-cell sequencing data from placental tissue in early-onset preeclampsia with experimental hypoxia induction in cell models. For the first time, gene expression profiles in diseased placental samples were directly compared to the molecular response of trophoblasts subjected to chemical hypoxia induction using a novel oxyquinoline derivative.
