The Faculty of World Economy and International Affairs at the Asia Pacific Association of International Education APAIE 2025 Conference
Yulia Prokhorova, Director of the Center for International Cooperation at the Faculty of World Economy and International Affairs and Oleg Korneev, Academic Supervisor of the International Relations and Global Studies (IRGS) program, recently visited Delhi as part of the HSE University delegation to attend the annual Asia-Pacific Association for International Education (APAIE 2025) conference.

The Faculty representatives held a series of productive meetings with colleagues from universities in Brazil, Mexico, Morocco, India, and several other countries across the Asia-Pacific region. These discussions led to the development of new initiatives and content for existing partnerships, particularly with institutions deemed strategically important by the Faculty. Key topics included expanding international academic mobility for both students and faculty, developing more integrated educational formats, and creating unique learning opportunities for students of the Faculty of World Economy and International Affairs.
During APAIE, Yulia Prokhorova and Oleg Korneev worked especially closely with representatives from Brazilian universities. Reflecting on these exchanges, Oleg Korneev emphasized their importance:
“Given HSE’s strong support for partnerships with Brazilian universities, we aim to enhance the quality and depth of our collaborations. This requires ongoing, in-depth dialogue with our international colleagues. In particular, our conversations with the Federal University of Minas Gerais (FUMG) and São Paulo State University (UNESP) focused on student participation in summer schools related to international relations and public policy, semester-long exchange programs, and the potential for creating more integrated joint educational offerings.
We also met with representatives from two additional Brazilian institutions—the Armando Alvares Penteado Foundation (FAAP) and the Federal University of ABC (FUABC). FAAP is a prestigious private university in São Paulo’s historic center, offering a wide range of English-taught courses that provide excellent opportunities for non-Portuguese-speaking students. This is particularly attractive for IRGS students focusing on Latin America, as FAAP offers a dedicated academic track on the region.
At FUABC, we explored the university’s distinctive interdisciplinary and flexible curriculum, its strong international reputation, and potential for joint educational initiatives. We discussed not only leveraging existing English-language courses but also co-developing new ones with faculty from our department. Plans are also underway for expert online lectures delivered by IRGS faculty for Brazilian students, which could launch in the near future.”
Yulia Prokhorova also highlighted a key meeting with representatives from Anahuac Cancun University (Mexico), which boasts a highly internationalized campus due to sustained student mobility from across the globe. The university offers valuable exchange opportunities for students studying Spanish and Latin America, along with a wide array of English-language courses that can appeal to a broader student base.
Together with other members of the HSE delegation, Prokhorova and Korneev also visited Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), where they met with Professor P.R. Kumaraswamy, Director of the International Relations Department, as well as faculty from the School of International Studies and the School of Language, Literature, and Culture Studies. During the visit, HSE and JNU exchanged a signed cooperation agreement and discussed specific projects to bring the agreement to life.
Following the APAIE conference, the HSE delegation visited the campus of O.P. Jindal Global University, a prestigious private institution located 40 km north of Delhi, near Sonipat. Founded in 2009, Jindal is recognized for its state-of-the-art infrastructure, internationally experienced faculty, and top-tier academic rankings. In the 2025 QS subject rankings for private Indian universities, it ranks first in Political Science and International Relations, second in Economics, and third in Social Sciences and Management. It was also granted "Institution of Eminence" status in 2020 by the Government of India, reflecting its national significance.
During the campus visit, HSE faculty explored key academic and residential facilities, including classrooms, administrative buildings, dormitories, creative spaces, and an upcoming Olympic-level sports complex. Vice-Chancellor Raj Kumar personally guided the tour, placing special emphasis on India’s only Constitution Museum, recently opened on campus. The museum’s unique collection—featuring an original embellished copy of the Indian Constitution, historical documents, and artwork—offers exceptional research opportunities for scholars of India’s political and social development.
As an HSE partner institution, Jindal University actively supports student exchange by offering generous academic mobility quotas. Feedback from HSE students currently studying at Jindal highlights the benefits of this cooperation—from the flexibility of course selection and high-quality instruction in English to excellent living conditions and the opportunity to explore India firsthand, using the campus as a base for research and cultural immersion.
