Recently, Rector of the Higher School of Economics, Yaroslav Kuzminov, spoke with newsmaker “Izvestia” and described upcoming changes for Russian education. Olga Vasilieva, Minister of Education, expects jurisdiction of the schools to shift from the municipalities to the regions. Additionally, she plans for the creation of a unified educational space. Kuzminov opposes such changes due to the inability of the regions to fully finance the educational system. According to Kuzminov, schools need not reform but “Preparation for changes that will occur outside the school,” such as new technologies ultimately predicted to reform standard teaching methods.
