Final State Certification (FSC) is a mandatory part of studies under a degree programme and is organized for all students in their graduation year.

Dear students!
From October 15 to November 10, the campaign for choosing the topic of the Graduation Thesis starts. In the Thesis Topics section, you’ll find the list of the teachers recommended by the programme as research advisors, as well as a list of suggested topics.
* A student has the right either to choose any of the listed topics or propose an alternative topic together with the research advisor. After the application has been approved by the research advisor, it is submitted for approval by the Academic Council of the programme.
Please note that the selection or a change of the GT topic takes place exclusively on the SmartPro platform.

The students should submit the Graduation Thesis (GT) topic into SmartPro

No later than November 26, 2025
The Academic Council should approve the list of GT topics and supervisors. Some of the topics may be declined by the Academic Council, if they are not corresponded to the field of research, the level of complexity etc.

No later than December 15, 2025
If a student has not chosen a topic within the prescribed time, or the Academic Council of the programme has not reasonably approved it, the Academic Supervisor of the programme appoints both the supervisor and the topic of the Graduation thesis from the approved recommended list to the student at his discretion.

No later than March - April, 2026
Applications for the replacement of the scientific supervisor of the Graduation thesis are submitted by students and agreed upon by the scientific supervisors through SmartPro. The changes must be approved by the Academic Council of the programme no later than March, 12 2026.
Applications for changing the topic of the Graduation thesis are submitted by students and agreed upon by scientific supervisors through SmartPro. The changes must be approved by the Academic Council of the programme no later than April, 01 2026.

Evaluation of the curriculum element "Graduation thesis preparation"
No later than April 07 2026, students must submit the full text of the thesis in an interim version, including the completed texts of the chapters, introduction and conclusion, to the supervisor through the LMS system. The submitted text is subject to evaluation by the scientific supervisor of the GT in "PASS" or "FAIL". In the case of a "failed" grade, the student retains the right to the first and second retakes within the period of retakes established for the final course.

No later than April 07, 2026, students must submit to the supervisor the full text of the thesis in an interim version, including the completed texts of the chapters, introduction and conclusions.

*If the student has not submitted the full text of the Graduation thesis in an interim version, including the completed texts of chapters, introductions and conclusions in accordance with the Guidelines, in the period up to April 23, 2026, following the results of the second retake, he is given a grade of "FAIL" for the element of the curriculum "Preparation of the Graduation thesis". In this case, the student is not allowed to pass the final state certification and is subject to expulsion from the Higher School of Economics as the curriculum he has not been completed in full

Submission of the Graduation thesis no later than May 14, 2026
To submit the Graduation thesis, the student must, no later than 23:00 on May, 14 2026, upload a file with the full and final text of the paper in doc format, or in any other format that is readable by Windows, through his personal account at the LMS system.
Students who have successfully completed their studies at the programme in full, including passing the "Preparation of the Graduation thesis", and are admitted to the final state certification by the relevant order are allowed to download the final text of the Graduation thesis.
* Students who fail to meet the deadline for uploading the thesis are subject to expulsion for failure to complete the Final state certification
