On May 17 and 18, 2019 the HSE Faculty of Communications, Media and Design is organizing its second annual Telling Stories festival. The event attracts renowned film directors, producers, photographers, curators of international projects, and trend-setting designers.

The festival presents the most recent achievements in the world of creative industries and media. In 2018, Telling Stories was visited by over 4,000 people, and 300,000 more watched online broadcasts. The speakers included Hollywood film director Darren Aronofsky, globally renowned photographer Oliviero Toscani, film director and producer Timur Bekmambetov, as well as influential designers, curators and media managers from Europe and the U.S.

The Telling Stories agenda is shaped by the three parts of the Faculty of Communications, Media and Design: School of Media, School of Integrated Communications, and HSE Art and Design School. This year, together with HSE and DPG communications agency, the festival has been co-organized by the Moscow Innovation Agency, which operates the Digital Business Space.

Festival guests will be treated to public talks, open interviews by renowned journalists and bloggers, creative start-ups, an exhibition, a design market, workshops, theatre performances, film presentations, concerts and parties.

‘Communication is the meaning of human life, and the meaning of communication is to be able to tell a story, to express life by words and signs’, said Andrey Bystritskiy, Dean of the Faculty of Communications, Media, and Design, ‘In the 21st century, it has become ever more interesting and complicated, since we live in a new environment of information and communication. It is full of new, outstanding opportunities, but it also demands exceptional talents and abilities. What we do at the festival and the faculty is helping to develop these talents and abilities.’

‘Moscow in this new era, the 2020s, is a city that has changed a lot from the inside, but hasn’t yet found its own language to tell new stories about itself. Such festivals as Telling Stories are not only about the development of creative industries, but, more importantly, about people who have the courage to tell new stories about us and our city, in an outstanding, unexpected and innovative way’, believes Alexey Parabuchev, CEO of the Moscow Innovation Agency.

Admission to the festival is free, but preliminary registration on the website is required.

Address: Digital Business Space, 47 Pokrovka Ulitsa.
