The course includes learning of external, front culture of St. Petersburg, i.e. classical culture which is presented in the classical traditional tour itineraries, and of internal culture - the second one, opposed to official culture. This culture is not so popular among tourists but it is still important.

Understanding the features of external and internal cultures helps students to take their bearings in the cultural space, broaden their outlook, and understand the essence of the processes that are taking place in St. Petersburg. The students will also get unique knowledge.

The course allows to understand deeper the city's culture because of different approaches to learning. External and internal processes in culture are not studied very often. The students get them familiar with front and underground culture of the city, understand the difference between them, and get the opportunity to integrate into cultural processes.

The aims of the course are increasing of the general cultural level of students, developing their interest in and respect to culture of St. Petersburg and their involvement in the cultural process. It is important to mention that for both some Russian and foreign students this course is the first conversance with St. Petersburg.
