A New Art Gallery, New Programmes and an Exhibition at the Museum of Moscow

The HSE ART AND DESIGN Festival, which was held at the Museum of Moscow, served as the final exam for students of HSE’s School of Art and Design. On the final day of the festival, undergraduate and graduate students of the ‘Fashion’ programme presented more than a hundred of pieces of their own design in a fashion show. HSE News Service covered the event.

This year 350 HSE School of Art and Design students graduated from the School’s various bachelor’s, master’s, and continuing education programmes — from communication design and fashion to animation and contemporary art.

Students of the HSE School of Art and Design presented their projects — paintings, graphics, sculptures, photography, video art, theater and sound performances, and animation — at the ART AND DESIGN Festival, which was both the culmination of the students’ hard work over the year as well as a major city event. Students, graduates and lecturers of the school worked as authors and curators of projects.

The final show of bachelor’s and master’s students of the programme in ‘Fashion’ GOLDEN YEARS-2019 was one of the festival main events. It included more than a hundred of looks. Students worked throughout the year on their collections, and the pieces were presented to the public for the first time at the festival. At the end of the festival graduates received their diplomas.

‘In 2019, the HSE School of Art and Design became a full-fledged School of Art: the HSE Art Gallery opened, a number of exhibitions were held (one of these exhibitions was nominated for a prestigious award in contemporary art innovation), and for the first time a large-scale graduation show was held at the Museum of Moscow featuring all programme areas, including contemporary art,’ says Arseniy Meshcheryakov, Head of the HSE School of Art and Design.

‘Our main priority next year is to further involve students in projects and creative activities,’ says Tatiana Rivchun, Deputy Dean of the HSE Faculty of Communications, Media and Design. ‘We plan to open new areas of study in design and art, develop technological infrastructure and start creative workshops. The most important task for us is to develop the brand of the HSE ART AND DESIGN SCHOOL: we plan to launch a design store, clothing and souvenir products, as well to open a programme in publishing.’
