HSEcoins have been donated by HSE students to finance student projects over the first few days of a new crowdfunding platform’s existence.
On September 13th, HSE Day, each HSE student received an HSEcoin worth 200 roubles, which can be divided into one hundred parts, and spent on supporting student projects until November 20.
As of today, the platform includes 10 projects. Students can support a ‘What? Where? When?’ HSE championship, the creation of a website for Russia’s biggest student media, help create a lounge in a dorm, and meeting rooms in study buildings, or help save the HSE rap battle space from being closed.
Currently, none of the projects has collected more than one third of the money requested. HSEcoin is following the classic crowdfunding rule: if the project raises over 70% of the requested funding within the time limit (no more than 30 days), the project is recognized as successful, and can use the money. If the project fails to reach the 70% mark, the HSEcoins will be returned to the donors.
At the beginning of the new academic year, HSE launched a new mechanism to support student projects called HSEcoin. The first phase of fundraising through this platform took place from September 13 to November 20. During this time, student projects managed to collect 5,069.14 HSEcoins, which equals more than one million roubles based on 2018 exchange rates. Below is a summary of the first phase of the HSEcoin campaign.
