Two HSE University Teams to Compete in ICPC Finals
Students from both HSE Moscow and HSE St. Petersburg have made it to the finals of the ICPC-2020 World Programming Championship. They were among the best teams at the semi-finals stage of the championship, which took place last weekend in St. Petersburg.
The International Collegiate Programming Contest (ICPC), the largest student programming contest, has been held since the 1970s. Qualifying competitions are held annually in more than 100 countries worldwide, with students from more than 3,000 universities taking part. On December 1, a qualifying tournament among Northern Eurasian universities came to a close, and the winning teams will go on to compete in the global finals.
Over 300 student teams representing universities in Russia and the countries of the former USSR gathered in St. Petersburg. Among them were ten teams from HSE University. All participants had to solve as many of the twelve proposed tasks as possible over the course of five hours (which is the standard time for ICPC competitions).
Seventh place overall and silver medals went to Logarifmya4ka team, a team of students from the Bachelor's programme in Applied Mathematics and Information Science: Mikhail Anoprenko, Vladimir Romanov and Ivan Safonov. They qualified for the ICPC World Finals.
Igor Labutin, Nikita Podguzov and Yegor Bogomolov from HSE University in St. Petersburg (Master's programme in Software Development and Data Analysis) will also compete in the finals.
The ICPC World Finals will be held in June 2020 in Moscow. Its organizing committee is led by Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev.
HSE students have already experienced success by competing in the ICPC finals, having won bronze medals twice.

‘The Competition Gave Young Researchers an Opportunity to Take the Initiative’
In September, HSE University announced the results of a competition of digital projects by early-career HSE scientists. The event was organised within the framework of the strategic project ‘Digital Transformation: Technologies, Effects, Efficiency’. The organisers selected 8 out of 22 applications. The research teams have already started to implement their projects, and the results will be presented at the end of November. The HSE News Service shares the details of three of the highest-scoring projects in the competition. The creators of the projects are staff members of the HSE Center for Language and Brain, MIEM, and the Faculty of Computer Science.
Over 7,000 Students Take Part in Data Analysis National Olympiad
Data analysis enthusiasts from different regions of Russia and 13 foreign countries recently took part in the Data Analysis National Olympiad (DANO). The results of the first round will be announced on October 20th.
HSE ICEF Students Are among the Winners of Econometrics Universiade
The results of the final round of the 2022 Econometrics Universiade have been announced. As always, ICEF undergraduate students are among the leaders – Vladimir Averin won the overall competition, while Gleb Kudryashov was also among the prize-winners.
Submarine and French Confectioner's Shop—Winners of the Top Class Research Competition Announced
This year’s final stage of Top Class, the All-Russian Competition of Schoolchildren’s Research and Projects, held by HSE University, has come to a close. About a thousand 8th—11th graders from 7 countries and 69 regions of Russia participated in the contest. The winners and runners-up were announced at the closing ceremony in the HSE Cultural Centre. They received special prizes from partner companies.
HSE University Computer Science Teams Place First and Second in NERC ICPC 2022
Two teams from the HSE University Faculty of Computer Science (FCS) in Moscow have taken first and second place in the semi-finals of the 2022 International Collegiate Programming Contest (ICPC). The last time a single university took both first and second place was in 1997. Almost 250 teams took part in the event, five of which were from HSE University in Moscow. A team from HSE University in St Petersburg took fourth place. The winning team was awarded the winner’s trophy of the ICPC semi-finals, while the HSE University teams that placed second and fourth won gold medals.
Civic Chamber of the Russian Federation Announces Winners of Two Innovation Competitions
The winners of the KIVO Education Innovation Competition and the Innovator’s Voice all-Russia contest of youth social and educational innovations have been announced. Both competitions were organized by HSE University: KIVO 2021 in partnership with the Rybakov Foundation with support from the Agency for Strategic Initiatives, and Innovator’s Voice with support from the Federal Agency for Youth Affairs.
Two Contestants Correctly Guess All Three Nobel Prize Winners in Economics
The two winners of the Andrej Bremzen competition to correctly predict all three awardees are Ivan Susin, a Research Assistant at the HSE International Laboratory for Experimental and Behavioural Economics, and Maxim Ananyev, a researcher at the University of Melbourne. They both named David Card, Joshua Angrist, and Guido Imbens, and will now receive prizes from the HSE Faculty of Economic Sciences.
HSE to Support the 2022 International Mind Games
An intellectual competition for secondary school students from all over the world who are lovers of science and technology will be held in Yakutia with the participation of HSE University. High school students from all over the world will gather for several days to participate in projects in the natural sciences and humanities led by scientists and scholars from around the world.
