HSE University-St Petersburg and the Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT Delhi), a leading Indian university, have agreed to launch joint research projects in the field of social, political studies, humanities, and data analysis for master's students. On the Russian side, this work will be coordinated by the HSE St Petersburg School of Social Sciences.

The agreement was reached during a recent visit by an HSE-St Petersburg delegation to IIT Delhi in February 2024.

Alexander Sorokin, Dean of the HSE St Petersburg School of Social Sciences, noted that ‘along with research in sustainable development, youth studies, social and environmental sociology and anthropology, HSE and IIT Delhi will launch joint projects in the field of digital social sciences, humanities, student and teaching mobility.’

Both sides are also planning to hold joint research seminars, summer schools, and internships.

Daniil Alexandrov

HSE Tenured Professor Daniil Alexandrov gave a lecture to IIT Delhi students on ‘Women in STEM’ (STEM — Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) and described the results of studies on gender segregation in education. ‘I am sure that HSE scientists will be interested in working with colleagues from India on joint projects, and exchange opportunities will be very popular among both students and teachers,’ he emphasised.

Following the visit, Indian colleagues expressed interest in signing a long-term cooperation agreement aimed at implementing new applied programmes and projects.

HSE consistently implements a policy of deepening and expanding interaction with major Indian universities. One of the most significant steps in this direction was a visit by a delegation led by Anna Tyshetskaya, Director of HSE University-St Petersburg, in November 2023.

Currently, HSE is preparing to sign more than ten cooperation agreements with leading Indian universities. Various research projects and the launch of a number of joint programmes for continuing professional education are also planned.

The Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) are a group of autonomous engineering-oriented universities. The Indian Institute of Technology Delhi was founded in 1961 in the country’s capital and has the status of an ‘Institution of National Importance’. The university trains specialists in physics, engineering, management, humanities, and social sciences. IIT Delhi is ranked 197th in the QS World University Rankings 2024.
