The Master’s Programme ‘Applied Artificial Intelligence Models’ trains professionals with the competencies to create industrial artificial intelligence models capable of solving a wide range of applied tasks. During training, students will study and apply modern methods and means of creating applied models using artificial intelligence technologies.

The programme is intended for those who have already mastered a basic level of machine learning and undergone basic fundamental training in applied mathematics and computer science. The programme is focused on data analysis, computer vision and neural networks. The students with best performance will participate in workshops of the HSE University-VK Engineering and Mathematics School, take part in the development and research of business units, and receive a 40,000-rouble monthly scholarship from VK.

Sergey Slastnikov, Academic Supervisor of the Master’s Programme ‘Applied Artificial Intelligence Models’

‘The programme will teach disciplines related primarily to machine learning, data analysis and programming. Together with our colleagues from VK, we have designed course structures that include not only theoretical, but also practical skills and knowledge that will help students master the features of the AI industry.

Programme graduates will be able to solve problems related to the creation of industrial models of artificial intelligence, software services and tools based on AI models. They will be in demand both in large technology companies and in startups that create solutions using the latest machine learning technologies.’

Fedor Ivanov, Director of HSE University-VK Engineering and Mathematics School

‘The new programme was created thanks to the cooperation between HSE University and VK within the framework of the Engineering and Mathematics School. A workshop on applied artificial intelligence is already operating at the school and the master's programme track has been created as part of the programme “System Analysis and Mathematical Technologies”.

Students of the workshop work on real projects from VK business units led by curators from VK and HSE researchers. The disciplines taught within the framework of the track help students to successfully implement projects. Now we are expanding the workshop's educational initiatives and launching a full-fledged degree programme. This will help us to more properly select students for the workshop and establish a foundation for turning applied artificial intelligence into a frontier R&D activity of the school.’

Anna Stepanova, Director of Educational Projects and Interaction with Universities at VK

‘The launch of a joint master's programme in AI is a logical stage in expanding the Engineering and Mathematics School that we launched with HSE University in 2022. The subject of artificial intelligence dominates the workshop's projects. To fulfil them, we need even more qualified and motivated students.

We highly appreciate the openness of HSE University in implementing degree programmes together with business companies. Course teachers and mentors of VK educational projects will make the programme content more applied. Graduates of the programme will be able to start working in IT companies and solving business cases with minimal adaptation.’

Irina Martusevich, HSE University Vice Rector

‘The feature and value of the new master's programme in applied artificial intelligence is that it combines fundamental, applied and engineering science in the field of artificial intelligence, helping students understand not only how high-tech IT solutions are developed, but also their life cycle—from idea to support for already-implemented products.

When designing the new educational programme, we managed not only to introduce full-fledged project training based on industrial cases, but also to come to a fundamentally new educational model: training around the project with the involvement of an industrial partner. This new model will allow us to involve graduates in the business processes of organisations. And it is very important for the university to train specialists whose adaptation requires minimal effort from employers.’

Admissions to the Master’s Programme ‘Applied Artificial Intelligence Models’ are open from June 19 to July 25. Classes start in September 2023.
