International students have been enrolled in HSE undergraduate and graduate programmes this academic year. About 800 people will study on Russian government scholarships while the rest will pay tuition fees. Compared to last year, the number of international students among first-year fee-paying students has increased by about 80%.
According to Rossotrudnichestvo data, HSE is among the top five Russian universities that are most popular with foreigners (with 2032 applications submitted through this organization). The other universities include the Peoples' Friendship University of Russia, Kazan (Privolzhsky) Federal University, and the Ural Federal University. St. Petersburg State University is in the first place.
As Ivan Prostakov, HSE Vice Rector, noted, increases in the number of international students enrolled at HSE contributes to the development of the university, as it enables integration into the global education market and serves as an incentive for the development of infrastructure and services, which brings benefits not only for international students, but also for Russians.
Among the countries with the highest enrollment are Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Vietnam, China, Italy, Moldova, Belarus, and Kyrgyzstan. The most popular fields of study among undergaduates are management, economics, law, political science, design, media communications, applied maths, and computer science. International students enrolled in Master's programmes were predominatly interested in management, economics, finance, business informatics, and political science.

HSE is launching a new Bachelor's programme in Russian Studies. While the programme will be taught in English, it is intended not only for foreigners but also for Russian students. Rostislav Turovsky, the programme’s Academic Supervisor, spoke to the HSE News Service about the features of the new programme.
A double degree implemented by HSE and Kyung Hee University in Economics and Politics in Asia was unveiled at the HSE Faculty of World Economy and International Affairs. The first enrolment in the programme took place this summer. Participants of the presentation included Lee Jin-hyun, Deputy Ambassador of the Republic of Korea; Khan Gon, Vice President of Kyung Hee University; as well as representatives from the embassies of China, Japan, Indonesia, Vietnam, and Malaysia in Russia.
International admissions for HSE’s Bachelor’s and Master’s programmes are now open. This year, HSE is inviting applications for 52 Bachelor’s and 166 Master’s programmes across its four campuses. A number of programmes are taught in English and offer double-degree opportunities. International students can apply online. Early applications may be eligible for scholarships and tuition fee waivers.
In 2019, HSE will begin enrolling students in undergraduate programmes at two new faculties: the Faculty of Chemistry, and the Faculty of Biology and Biotechnology. These faculties will work in partnership with leading RAS institutions where students will be carrying out research.
The high quality of HSE’s Bachelor programme has been recognised by experts on the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET), the headquarters of which are located in the U.S. For more than 85 years, ABET has been accrediting college and university programmes in the applied and natural sciences, computing, engineering and engineering technology. HSE’s Software Engineering programme is the only one in Russia to have received this accreditation.
