Types of courses

1. General information

According the the Master in Comparative Social Research curriculum and general HSE rules each year study take course for a minumum of 60 and the maximum of 66 ECTS. First year students shoul register for  elective courses /as for school year 2015-2016/ via HSE Learning Management System (LMS). The deadline for course registration is September 20th.
In addition to the online registration the students should submit a signed paper copy of their Study Plan to the program manager following the sample form uploaded below:

If you are not sure which elective course suites your academic interests do not hesitate to ask the Academic supervisor of the program for advice.

2. Where do I find the information on the courses offered this year? 

Detailed information on the courses offered by Master in Comparative Social Research is available on the program website in Syllabus section. Information on the courses outside the program can de foundin the HSE course catalogue following the link http://www.hse.ru/en/edu/study/

 

3. Types of courses for Master students  


There are five types of courses for Master level at HSE:


- Adaptive courses: our program offers Basic statistics for students with no previous statistical background. Credits are not counted towards total ECTS.

- Core courses: these courses make the foundation of the program, provide students with solid methods and theory foundation and understanding of comparative sociology field.


- Elective courses: these are the courses that students chooses him or her self from the list that is offered the current school year. The choice should be made according the your academic and research interests. All electives should be taken during the first year of the studies. Students may choose electives from other Master programs, but the area of study should be the relevant to the student man program. Students should make their choice by September 20th. The choice is made for all four modules of the school year and can only be changed if there is a timetable clash with the core courses.


- University pool discipline - MagoLego: is a separate component of elective courses block run in module 3-4. MagoLego counts towards 3 ECTS. The pool includes offerings from all departments of the university and updates annually. Program manager will inform you on the list in September.


- Open University classes: HSE offers a number of open classes that may interest students who want to gain additional knowledge. The list is updated annually and but always includes Russian language courses for different levels. Program manager will inform you on the list in September.
