Students of Computer Security at MIEM HSE have become the overall winners in the National conference competition in practical information security KubanCTF-2018. The competition took place on May 4 and 5 in Krasnodar, and attracted 48 teams from Russian universities.
HSE and Samsung Electronics have signed an agreement to jointly implement the ‘IoT Samsung Academy’ programme. As part of this agreement, MIEM will start teaching specialists in the Internet of Things (IoT) from September 2018.

The XI Competition for Students and Young Professionals with Disabilities was organized by the ‘Perspective’ NGO and the Disability Business Council, with the support of the Presidential Grant Foundation, Trafigura Foundation, Citi Foundation, MTS, and Coleman Services. The winners were offered internship and job offers.
Artur Davletshin, fourth-year student in Informatics and Computer Hardware and Software at MIEM HSE (supervisor Aleksandr Romanov, Associate Professor at the School of Computer Engineering) has won a scholarship for the Apple Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC). Artur will attend the WWDC in San Jose, California, from June 4 – 8.
The Higher School of Economics has climbed to 32nd place in the Times Higher Education Emerging Economies Rankings, improving its previous position by 16 places.
HSE and Moscow Exchange are founding a joint Department of Financial Market Infrastructure at the Faculty of Economic Sciences. It will bring together HSE lecturers and Moscow Exchange staff. Students will be offered new courses and will also have the opportunity to participate in project work and undertake internships at the Exchange.
Charlie Song is a Chinese student who spent a semester at HSE University–St. Petersburg, focusing on Russian, Eurasian and Post-Soviet Studies. The HSE Student Council Committee on Education Quality has won the title ‘Best project aimed at monitoring the quality of educational services’. The national competition assesses student activities which aim to improve the quality of education and is organized by the Russian Union of Youth, together with Rosobrnadzor (government agency supervising educational institutions) and the Russian Association of Students and Student Organisations.
A team of HSE students has sucessfully returned after taking part in the 28th Vojtěch Jarník International Mathematical Competition, held in the Czech Republic. The competition has been held annually since 1991 by the University of Ostrava in the Czech Republic. Students compete in two age groups: category I (junior group) is for first and second-year students under 22 years and category II (senior group) is for older students.
