‘Management in Emerging Markets: Trends and Strategies’: Version 2013

Eleven master’s programme students from Russia and other countries, such as the USA, Ukraine, and Uzbekistan, participated in the international HSE summer school ‘Management in Emerging Markets: Trends and Strategies’.

Professor Kenneth Pinnow:'These summer programmes are important for promoting global understanding and individual growth'

Kenneth Pinnow, Associate Professor of History from the University of Pittsburgh has been specializing in the history of Soviet Union and Russia for a nearly three decades. His current research interests are medical ethics and human experimentation in Russia and the USSR andearly Soviet criminology. He shared his impressions on the Summer School organized jointly with the Faculty of History of the HSE Saint-Petersburg Campus.

International Education and International Business Go Hand in Hand

Maria Ashaeva and Anna Buzueva, students in the HSE-Nizhny Novgorod’s Faculty of Business Informatics and Applied Mathematics, together with other Russian students, have taken part in the EDUPASS Project (Education-Process-Analysis, Support and Service) seminar. This project, involving the SAP Academic Department, is led by an international academic network, the European Research Centre for Information Systems (ERCIS), on behalf of T-Systems, a leading provider of IT solutions. The seminar was held in Germany.

Urban Activism as an Ideology

In July 2013, The HSE's Graduate School of Urban Studies and Planning hosted its first summer school on promoting urban activism. The school was attended by international experts, including the architects Stefan Retich, professor at the University of Bremen, Janine Walter from Berlin, and Lukasz Pancewicz from Gdansk. We spoke to the organiser of the summer school, Dmitry Savkin, Deputy Dean of the Higher School of Urban Studies and Planning.

History in the View of Young Russians and Americans

On July 3–13, 2013, an international summer school ‘Russia between the Past and the Present: Russian Politics, History, and Culture in Comparative Perspective’ took place in Saint Petersburg. The event was organized by the HSE Saint Petersburg Faculty of History.

‘We’ve Started the Procedure of Staff Renewal’

On July 10, 2013, HSE Rector, Yaroslav Kuzminov, took part in a press conference on the results of the competition for government support for leading Russian HEIs to enter the world’s top 100 universities.

ICEF and LSE Sign Agreement for Next Four Years

On June 24, 2013, the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE), represented by ICEF Project Director from the LSE Richard Jackman, and the HSE, represented by First Vice Rector Vadim Radaev, signed an agreement on the activities and development of the HSE’s International College of Economics and Finance (ICEF) for the next four-year period. Sergey Yakovlev, Director of the ICEF, told us about this cooperation.

Vasily Klyucharev, Dean of the HSE Faculty of Psychology: ‘Our objective is to integrate our faculty into the European academic space’

Vasily Klyucharev is the new Dean of the HSE Faculty of Psychology. His professional interests lie in neuroeconomics - more specifically, in the study of social influence, of the ways our decisions can be manipulated, what mechanisms are at play, and which parts of our brain are involved when someone tries to manipulate us. The new Dean talked to our news service about the faculty's upcoming research projects and academic courses.

The Best Students Go to London

Every year the HSE International College of Economics and Finance rewards its best students by sending them to study at the London School of Economics and Political Sciences (LSE), for free. This year, two second-year undergraduate and two first-year master’s students of the ICEF will be reaping the benefits of their hard work with a trip to the LSE.
