Положение о практической подготовке студентов основных образовательных программ высшего образования – программ бакалавриата, специалитета и магистратуры Национального исследовательского университета «Высшая школа экономики»
Currently, HSE University is in the process of introducing a new element known as "project work" (or "projects") in the study process.
What is a project?
Unlike lectures and seminars, a project is an independently organized activity of a student carried out under the guidance of a project leader. Officially, it aims at finding a solution to a practical or theoretically significant problem. Actually, project work is about learning by doing.
What does participation in a project provide a student with?
Project work allows students to acquire, consolidate or develop specific knowledge or practical skills crucial for professional activities in the future and some experience of self-organization.
The curriculum of the Master's programme "Politics. Economics. Philosophy" contains an element "Project of the student's choice" (Проект по выбору студента) worth four credits for the 1st year and six credits for the 2nd year of studies.
There are a lot of projects currently underway. Typically, projects are initiated by the University, by the faculty members, research labs, etc. Even students may try (and succeed) in launching their own projects. Students may join labs, project and grant groups to get the project work done. The choice is vast. To learn more about the ongoing projects and make informed choices, students may use the all-University Project Fair (Ярмарка проектов).
The choice of a project is based on one's academic and professional interests and abilities. Howvere, the choice is to be reviewed by the academic supervisor of the Programme. We strongly advise students to choose among research and applied projects and to avoid the so-called service projects (projects of this type are not to be awarded credits).
A student submits an application for approval to the academic supervisor after securing confirmation of participation in the project from his supervisor.
If a student initiates his or her own project, a project proposal (see attached form) is to be filled in and attached to the application.
2nd year students are to complete the projects of their choice by the end of the 3rd module. 1st year students are to complete the projects of their choice by the end of the 4th module. Students who have not completed the projects within the specified time frame will have an academic failure. In addition, 2nd year students will not be allowed to pass the final state certification.
