At the end of May, HSE University hosted the traditional Oriental Crazy Day. This year the holiday was held for the tenth time. For students, this is an opportunity to show their talents on stage, take part in fortune-telling with the Book of Changes, and learn more about the diversity of Asian cultures as well as the bachelor’s programme ‘Asian and African Studies.’

Ana Livia Araujo Esteves, from Brazil, is a journalist, a doctoral student, and visiting lecturer at the HSE School of International Regional Studies. In her interview for the HSE News Service, she speaks about her motivation to carry out research and teach students in Russia, shares some tips for people from Latin America living in Moscow, and talks about why a dog can be a reason to stay in Russia.

HSE University has welcomed students of the International House Tashkent Academic Lyceum at TIIAME National Research University, Uzbekistan. The students are participants in the educational project 'Lyceum Classes with Support from HSE,' initiated by the International Admissions Office and implemented since 2022 in collaboration with faculties of HSE University and foreign educational institutions.

The RAEX agency has published the subject rankings of Russian universities in 2024. According to the research, HSE University came first in 13 subjects and leads in management, psychology, sociology, and economics. It also took first place in the public administration ranking, published for the first time.

On May 25, HSE Art and Design School held an annual festival dedicated to video games and geek culture—Game Future Fest 2024. Gamers, developers, designers, potential investors and employers, as well as those interested in game dev, gathered to play, support student projects, attend workshops, and chat with teammates. The event was held at HSE University on Staraya Basmannaya Ulitsa.

A delegation from the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences visited HSE University. As part of the visit, a roundtable discussion on ‘Russia and China: Comprehensive Partnership and Strategic Interaction in a New Era’ was held. Participants discussed issues related to the Russian-Chinese strategic interaction in global and regional security, finance, trade, and investment.

Foreign students from HSE University recently took part in the project of the School of Entrepreneurship for international students ‘Start your business with Moscow!’. Wang Yue, student of the HSE GSB Master's programme in International Management from China, became one of the most active participants in the project. She shared her impressions of participating in the training with the HSE News Service.

In April 2014, the Faculty of Social Sciences was established at HSE University by integrating four existing faculties. Today, over 5,000 students are enrolled in its programmes, with more than 300 instructors teaching classes. In this interview, Prof. Andrei Y. Melville, Dean of the Faculty, discusses its evolution over the past decade, its achievements, expectations for applicants, and the upcoming admissions campaign.

Priority areas of the creative economy in the Perm Krai (Russia) and the importance of the educational component in the development of creative industries were discussed by experts at the plenary session ‘Development of the Creative Industries Cluster in Perm Region.’ The event was organised by HSE University in collaboration with the Agency for the Development of Small and Medium Entrepreneurship of the Perm Krai at the ‘Days of Perm Business’ forum.
