The HSE University’s master’s programme in Science, Technology and Innovation Management and Policy is launching a double degree programme with the State University of Campinas (Unicamp), Brazil. Below, Dirk Meissner from HSE University, together with Bruno Fischer and Gustavo Salati from Unicamp, talk about the importance of academic knowledge for non-academic professions, the selection prerequisites for the programme, and the advantages of this type of cooperation for leading national universities.

Roosevelt Ogah is a first-year student of the master’s programme in Economics and Economic Policy at HSE University. He studies on the research track ‘Microeconomics and Macroeconomics’ and demonstrates very high academic performance. In his interview, he shares his experience of studying abroad for the first time and some tips on how to achieve high results in studies.

‘Mirror Laboratories’ is one of the flagship programmes of the HSE University aimed at developing domestic scientific partnerships. During the implementation of the project, 41 research projects were initiated in partnership with 30 regional universities and scientific organisations. A series of round tables timed to coincide with the fifth anniversary of the ‘Mirror Laboratories’ project, were held at the HSE University on April 24–25, 2024.

On April 14–19, 2024, two finals of the International Collegiate Programming Contest (ICPC) took place in Luxor (Egypt). The teams from HSE University’s Faculty of Computer Science became world champions in the 47th ICPC final and received gold medals in the 46th final.

On April 15, 2024 HSE University hosted a roundtable discussion ‘Africa and BRICS: Reflections and Prospects.’ The event featured leading experts from the South African Institute of International Affairs (SAIIA) Steven Gruzd and Gustavo de Carvalho and was moderated by HSE Vice Rector and Head of the BRICS Expert Council–Russia Victoria Panova.

HSE University was the first Russian university to sign a cooperation agreement with the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay aimed at conducting joint research and fostering academic and cultural ties. The document was signed by Anna Tyshetskaya, Director of the HSE Campus in St Petersburg, and the head of IIT Bombay, Prof. Subhasis Chaudhuri.

HSE University and Southwestern University of Finance and Economics (SWUFE) have signed a cooperation agreement to offer a Bachelor's double degree programme in Economics and Finance. The participating partners are the International Institute of Economics and Finance (ICEF) at HSE University and the Research Institute of Economics and Management (RIEM) at SWUFE.

A team of Russian researchers has synthesised a new class of complex compounds of rare earth elements. Unlike other lanthanide compounds, the resulting substances are highly soluble in most organic solvents. These novel compounds can find application in organic and organometallic synthesis, as well as in the production of new luminescent materials.
